I teach 7th and 8th grade students with moderate to severe special needs. They are required to compare and contrast two works of literature. Reading is not my students strengths but when I read a book to them and they are able to follow along in their book they feel they are reading the book just like everyone else. They love being read to and they can keep up and answer questions on grade level. It is inspiring to see these kids get so excited over a book. I want them to read and understand the same type of books as their non disabled peers. By doing this it gives them a chance to socialize with them and have a conversation with them over a good book.
