  • Taking Sensory Play to Another Level!

    Funded Jan 23, 2024

Having the light table in our classroom to help regulate our students sensory needs has been very helpful. When students are having a hard time with sensory needs or just simply need a break, we've used the light table. When we dim the classroom lights and turn on the table, the students immediately seem to become more calm and focused. Students love sifting their hands through the sensory beads and materials which is our most requested free choice area. I have to admit that even I feel calm when physically motoring some students hands through the materials. Giving students the ability to make a choice of their materials and color on the light table have increased language and decision making skills. Thank you for allowing our classroom to meet the needs of all learners.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morgan

  • Lighting the Way Using Sensory

    Funded Mar 24, 2023

The students from last school year and my new students absolutely love the new light table. We have used the light table manipulatives to complete hands activities such as sorting, making patterns, spelling out our names, alphabet and number recognition. I started dimming the lights so that students were able to get the whole effect of the color changing light table. In the process I realized how much more calm the students were. Thanks to the color changing light table, we now keep one row of lights out in our room daily.”

  • Sensory Sensation Station

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Yay, We did it! Thanks so much. I can't wait to see my babies in action in the Sensory Station. The station will now become a part of our daily small group rotations. Pictures will be posted to classdojo as soon as the materials arrive. Hoping it comes before 12/20 so that we can open it as a class present.”

  • Let's Get The Little Ones Moving!

    Funded Oct 5, 2018

Ever since we received the Let's Get Moving Activity Mats and the Rolling cart outside rotations have not been the same. The students are always excited to go outdoors and participate in physical education. The students vote each day on which activity mats they will use to set up the movement rotation centers. I have also created a helper schedule with the names of the students who will assist with rolling the cart out since, everyone is willing and excited. In the future we plan on using the Let's Get moving activity mats to create a Special Education Olympics.”

  • Little Readers!

    Funded Oct 1, 2018

The books arrived at a perfect time. They helped make our investigation about community workers more interesting. Most of the students in my class have special needs and are visual learners so, the pictures in the books help them to make connections to the actual community workers. I am using the books to practice appropriate book handling skills. I have also used the books to teach pre-reading skills such as tracking words from left to right. Even after reading

a book several times, the students continue to request that I read the books again. Yay, little readers!”

  • Preschoolers Got Tech

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Since we have integrated the kindles into our daily center rotations the students' classroom behavior has improved tremendously. Not only are the kindles helping to improve the students' fine motor skills but, I also use it for behavior management and positive reinforcement. Students are required to ask permission for use using some form of communication which might be talking, signing, or gestures. Have the kindles in my classroom has made teaching much more interesting would suggest using the kindle in the classroom to all special education teachers.”

  • Art Occupational Therapy

    Funded Dec 18, 2015

I am so grateful that people still believe in art and it's amazing power as therapy. The students and I were excited to start our investigation on clothing and the uniforms people wear to work. We used the new art supplies to make Police officers, Firefighters, Doctors, and Mail Carrier bags. The students were so excited to participate in cutting, pasting, and drawing. If it were not for this donation it would have been impossible to teach the students about community workers and their uniforms since they are all visual and tactile learners.”

  • Circle Time Music and Movement

    Funded Dec 24, 2015

When the students walked in and seen the Circle Time Center set up they were so excited. Everyday at circle time the students are now seated and ready to start. They are now beginning to understand rhyming a little better since the circle time center has a rhyme time section with visuals. My students also benefit from the center since it is so hands-on and has tactile letters. My students who were struggling with counting are now able to visualize the gumballs as they are added and counted on a daily basis in the Let's count section of the circle time center. I am so grateful for the Circle Time Center donation and the improvements I see in the students motivation to learn.”

  • Gross Motor Development

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

The students are using the playground equipment to reach their physical development goals written in each student's individual educational plan. The equipment has helped students perform a variety of movements through playing such as climbing, sliding, swinging, and balancing which has strengthen their fine and gross motor skills.

This donation has allowed most students their only opportunity to experience climbing, sliding and playing with peers in a safe environment as their fine and gross motor skills emerge.

Since the double slide has arrived the students are beginning to socially interact more, use more language, and build cognitive skills to solve problems such has figuring out "who's turn is it to slide", and reminding other peers of the safety rules while on the slides.

    THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morgan

I have an Intensive Collaborative Autistic Preschool Classroom. The students in my class have little to no verbal or communication skills.
