Our school is now 20 years old and many of the picture books in our library are both outdated and worn. The books in this project would allow my students to select new literature that is both diverse and relevant. The addition of these book titles from diverse backgrounds will help the students develop empathy and understanding. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will enhance their social-emotional learning. After reading and discussing these books my students will be able to formulate questions about a personal interest or a curricular topic; continually seek knowledge in the library; enact new understanding through real-world connections Represent diverse perspectives during learning activities and demonstrate interest in other perspectives during learning activities while recognizing learning is a social responsibility.
