This is Needed Badly and As Soon As Possible Please!
Funded Sep 30, 2020Thank you so much for funding our ""This is Needed Badly and As Soon As Possible Please!" project on Donorschoose.org. This is a crazy year. No one has to convince anyone of that. But, we are in session and I am having a ball teaching my little students how to read! I teach Orton Gillingham and these slides go hand in hand with the lessons I teach, making learning dynamic, fun, and very engaging! The best part is that these slides can be used in the classroom with a small or large group, and they can easily be transferred to use for teaching at home, just in case we are quarantined. I was really hoping to get this amazing set of slides, because they are something that I will use to teach everyday and for many years to come. Thank you so much for supporting our learning. We really appreciate it!”

Funded Oct 1, 2020Thank you so much for funding our ""Please Help us Get Reading Materials As Soon as Possible!" project on Donorschoose.org! These OG in a Bag kits are needed so badly! I teach Orton Gillingham and it is working wonders for my little students. These bags are full of the most important supplies that my students need to learn how to read. With our tentative schedules this year, we can be sent home at a moments notice, and I need to have materials on hand for my students to complete their learning activities. Normally, this means that I have to go up to school and spend hours preparing materials to drop off at my students' houses. Having these bags will help cut down the time spent preparing after school for me. I will still have to prepare and plan, but these will help tremendously. Everything stores very nicely in the drawstring pouch. I like this because items will be protected and come back to school in nice shape. There are so many hands on manipulatives in the Orton Program, and they are all so beneficial. They are what works so well for the students, so these bags will truly be so much help. Thank you very much for your support of our program and of my students.”

Funded Feb 12, 2020Thank you so very much for helping me to get my ""Reading Rocks! Teacher Training to Support My Students With Dyslexia!" project on Donorschoose.org funded! Oh my goodness, has this project been fantastic! And, it ended up multiplying and becoming about three times as wonderful as I had originally planned, so I want to make sure that you know what a wonderful impact this had on my learning as a professional and on my students learning! You have impacted so many students with this amazing gift, and it is so special coming from you.
I am working on my dyslexia certification and this is something that I am doing completely on my own to help the students who struggle with reading difficulties in our district. This is training that my school does not pay for, and it is so helpful for so many kids. 1 in 5 students struggle with dyslexia or reading difficulties, so it is very important that they get the help they need. I am in first-grade and have my reading specialist license, so I am in a place to really help these students with the proper training. Orton Gillinham training is the absolute best training available for helping these students.
I had originally written this project to travel to take the second of the amazing dyslexia classes that I have been working on. My first dyslexia class was so amazing and made such a huge difference for my students. And I just had to continue. Well, right before I was supposed to travel, Covid struck and the class was moved online. I quickly decided to take the class anyhow. And, it was absolutely amazing! I use what I learned EVERY SINGLE day!!!!! It is honestly one of the very best classes that I have ever taken! And, there was a bonus. Because I wasn't able to travel, I was given the option of using the travel expenses to purchase things for my students and classroom! And, boy did I ever get some nice things for my students with that money!
We got a bunch of really nice, and fun indoor recess games that they can play even with social distancing protocols in place. We got tools for the students who are struggling with reading difficulties to use, like a pen that reads text to them and super fun write and wipe dice that we can put our red words on to practice in a fun way! We got amazing storage containers to put our materials in and keep them safe, we got a scanner so that we can easily check out and organize our classroom library according to student reading levels which will make it so much easier for them to pick good fit books. We got bulletin board materials, so that I can make some really cute bulletin boards that they can actually use as a giant board game to practice what they learn. We got a really nice tower storage system to store all of their writing papers so that they can easily grab what they need. We got a grow light for our hydroponic garden system which we needed very badly, and we got so much more. None of this was included in the original project request, so you can really see how we got a super nice bonus that is very, very very useful!
Thank you so much for helping us to get this project funded! You have made a huge difference for my students! It was so much fun to open all of these giant packages with my students, and we are already using most of the items! We will be using ALL of them very soon!”

Funded Sep 23, 2020Thank you so much for funding our "Spectacular Magnetic Letter and Word Fun in First-Grade!" project on Donorschoose.org. These magnetic letter trays and letters are going to be absolutely wonderful to use with my students! The kids will have so much fun using these very bright and colorful magnetic letters to spell words, chunks and sentences. The letters are neatly stored on the trays so that they are easy to find and so students can quickly go thought the letters so choose what they need. I will put one letter tray with magnetic letters on each of their desks, and then depending on the skill we are working on each day, they will spell words that I tell them. We will literally use these letters and trays every single day for some of our most important learning in literacy. There is nothing more important for a first-grader than learning how to read! My students will have such an advantage now that they have these trays and letters! Thank you so much for begin so kind to my class!”

Funded May 29, 2020I am super excited about having this hydroponic gardening system in our classroom! Students will be able to plant seedlings and watch them grow all the way to harvest. When the plants are grown, we can harvest them and sample the yummy treats that we grew ourselves. The students will benefit, not only from learning about plants and science, but also from the wonderful oxygen that will be released into our classroom. The planter will also serve as a way to distance and buffer an area of our classroom, which will actually help support social distancing. Best of all, I will most likely be able to send yummy veggies home with my students to enjoy with their families. I am so excited about having this planter in the classroom. It is capable of growing so many beautiful vegetables at one time. The students will learn so many valuable lessons from this experience.”

Funded May 28, 2020Thank you so much for funding my ""Please Help My Little First-Grade Student Learn at Home" project on Donorschoose.org. I was so worried about the progress of my students when school closed down in the spring. They were all doing so well, and were right on track for completing their end of the year goals. Then we go that surprising news. I thought we would only be closed for about 2 weeks, and even that would be costly to learning, but little did I realize that we would be closed for the rest of the year!
I had been working so hard with my little student during my dyslexia practicum and they had made such nice gains. These new learning materials helped me to get going again in my reading tutoring. The write and wipe boards, magnetic boards with magnetic letters, plastic plates, phonics games, alphabet and month posters green crayons and red crayons and so much more for multi-sensory learning gave me exactly what I needed to keep going in the area of reading.
This little student uses the magnetic boards and letters, and markers and slates to make words, figure out sounds and blends and so much more. The posters are even nicer than I expected. They are made of very durable material, are super colorful, and have exactly what we need on them! The plates are colorful and just perfect for putting our blending sand on to work with sounds in a multi-sensory way. The red and green crayons are exactly what we need for writing phonemic and red words. And, the Splash games are just the perfect touch to make learning a lot of fun! We appreciate your help and support so much! This truly affects reading levels and abilities for my kids, including those who might struggle, setting them up for an entire future of success!”

Funded Aug 11, 2020Thank you so much for funding our "Ready to Face the New School Year!" project on DonorsChoose.org. We had to do some creative social distancing in our photos this time, but we did receive everything and are so glad to have all of these items that we needed so badly! We were able to get off to a good start this year thanks to you. Because of your help, I was able to get a jump on ordering all of these much needed supplies before the school year started, and before items ran out, and we were able to have them on the very first day of school! We are doing incredibly well so far because we are able to practice safety protocols. I love that all of my special donors for this project were from close to home with special connections and from Virginia where my-in laws live! You have all been just amazing to our class. Thank you so much for your continued support! These grants truly make a difference, because I can quickly get the items that we need for special projects, or in this case, for a safe return to school. The Sneeze Guard barrier is wonderful because it allows me to work one on one, safely, with my students. That is so important for being able to teach reading in my small groups. The thermometer has been used so many times already, just to assure safety, and the hand sanitizer dispenser has been emptied multiple times already because it gets so much use! We are also very appreciative of the tablet stands and tripods. These really help with our virtual learning needs. We do have kids back and forth and this allows me to things to all of the kids in the class. It also allows me to set up all kinds of instructional webinars, activities and lessons. Everything single item is so useful! Thank you so much for your amazing support! It is quite a year for sure, but We've Got this so far! And, I'm so excited to share my healthy little class with you!”

Funded May 29, 2020Thank you so much for funding our "Sparkle and Shine With These Awesome Classroom Basics!" project on Donorschoose.org! We are absolutely thrilled to have these new learning materials for our classroom! The nice bright colors really brighten up our classroom! There were so many goodies in the packages that we needed to go outside to look at everything so that we could distance appropriately, but believe me, we have the perfect spot in our classroom for every single one of those items. We are currently attending 5 days a week, so we are already getting lots of good use out of everything. The photo boxes work so well for individual seat work! The kids love to grab their own little colored box. The bins and boxes are so colorful and are perfect for handing out and collecting things from the students. The brightly colored paper, makes everything look so nice because we are able to color coordinate everything! The little storage jars are amazing for all of our reading trinkets and art supplies. The flash drive and cards work great for storing classroom photos, projects and things to share out. We just really appreciate everything that you have helped us to get. Thank you so much for your generosity and for helping us to have what we need for school!”

Funded Mar 6, 2020Thank you so much for funding our "Remarkable Reading Books From Our Favorite Author for My First-Graders!" project on Donorschoose.org. Getting this book project funded is going to make a huge difference for my students! Having 190 of what I consider to be some of the absolute best books for teaching reading is going to be absolute wonderful! These books are so much fun, and my students love them because they are leveled according to student need, and there are books for every single student in my class. It is so much fun to see a student have success reading a book for the first time, because I am able to teach them with books that they can handle. I especially love to be able to help the kids that might have been told in the past that they will have a difficult time learning to read. Seeing the joy on their face and their parents' faces when they read a book for the first time is absolutely priceless to me and to them! These books help me to make that happen. The author of these books is so much fun, and he knows how much my students and I enjoy his books, because I have met and talked to him. In fact, my students have written to him and I hand delivered the letters at my last reading convention. It was a very special treat to have him write back to my students! This makes the kids LOVE these books even more! I have often said that if someone came into my classroom and said that I have to get rid of every teaching supply except one, these books are what I would keep. These truly are my most important teaching tool by far, so I really appreciate this gift! Knowing who donated these books for my students makes them so very, very special, because I will continue to think of her every single time I use them, and I use them every single day, many times a day! Thank you so much for providing this amazing gift for my students. We will use these for many, many years to come! And, I will be able to use them to teach so many kids to read!”

Funded Mar 17, 2020Thank you so much for funding our "Inside Recess and STEM Building Fun for First-Graders!" project on Donorschoose.org. We are so excited about having these Playstix and Slot-Together Snowflakes! My students are going to have a ball playing and creating with these fun science kits! They can work together and build all different kinds of projects together. I love these because every single child can participate in this activity and work with their friends to have fun and learn! Working and playing together helps everyone to feel happiness and friendship, and that is such a good thing. I love to see what they come up with, and I love to see them working and playing together so nicely! They are always so proud to show me the fun things that they can build!
