Students did their best with online instruction when distance learning was the only option. Now that we are back in the classroom, it's time to get books, social studies materials, and exploration kits in their hands. Let's inspire students to put their electronic devices away and invite them to read with a partner, design a structure, or investigate the "what ifs" of building with student-friendly materials.
I am requesting a variety of materials to meet the needs of students who are eager to explore and ready to grow. Students will use the construction materials to improve their critical thinking skills. Many science standards have been added with a focus on engineering. Students will go through the process of designing, predicting, testing, and coming to conclusions using the models that they construct. Manipulatives such as the KEVA Brain Builders, Botley the Coding Robot, and Create-A-Maze are ideal for budding engineers.
I've also requested a broad assortment of books for my classroom library. Popular series are included in sets for both small group instruction and partner reading. Picture books that address mindfulness, empathy, kindness, and other character traits are ideal for teacher read-alouds. Students are sure to enjoy having access to an updated selection of books to improve their literacy skills.
The materials will support NVACS science standards 3.5 Engineering Design and Practices through hands-on exploration. NVACS reading standards RL.3(1-10); RI.3(1-10); and RF.3.(4a-4c) will also be addressed using the grade level titles that have been requested.
