  • Help Us Close the Reading Gap- Levels K, L, M

    Funded Sep 27, 2015

Thank you so much to everyone who helped fund my project! You have helped my students begin the road of becoming readers!! I want them to love reading as much as I do. I want them to know that other people believe in them and feel that they can do better.

Giving them the foundation that I will be able to give them will give them the gift of learning to read. They will be able to get lost in a book and learn that their is a big world out there for them to learn and read about. They love the colorful books and because these books are appropriately leveled they no longer feel frustrated when they pick up a book. Your donation has already increased their reading performance. My students feel successful when reading the books at their level and because of this they are motivated to continue on their journey as a reader and a student. They feel special to have these new colorful, rich texts and get excited to read the books at higher levels; giving them the motivation to push through difficult tasks.

    Thanks again for giving!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Blatt

They have now moved several levels each which is a tremendous feat for a student below reading level. The G books came just in time and now many of my students have moved to an I and are so excited they have colorful new books. Their enthusiasm is such a gift in itself.”

I am in a large city of New York. All of my students receive free lunch and many are from single parent homes and most come to school with no supplies and struggle every day. But they want better, they want to learn and I believe they can. The students in my class are a diverse group. They come from hard working families, however many are below the standard reading level for their grade based on New York State Standards. This is in part due to disabilities, in addition to many who are English Language Learners and/or come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. This puts them at a distinct disadvantage, as compared to those who are fortunate enough to have been raised in a home where parents have provided the initial steps towards literacy.
