  • Learn about Community Helpers using LEGO!

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

Having brand new Legos to use in our classroom is wonderful. With social distancing, we are now able to have 2 Lego areas going at the same time. I did not realize how hard it would be during this pandemic, to teach the children how to share. It all came to fruition with your fantastic donation. Being able to separate the children took a lot of thought but we realized that if we had two sets of Legos, the children could discuss their creations, therefore we were promoting discussion, while social distancing. Thank you so very much and I do believe that the government could learn a lesson from wonderful donors like you because with this donation, you have enabled us to continue the practice of social distancing and still foster goodwill in teaching sharing. Our children thank you and the children that we will teach after the pandemic will thank you also. These Legos will last for years to come and we will be able to teach our students about many different careers and introduce the children to this big word - architecture. You have provided us with a useful tool to use in 2021!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. W.

  • Time For Kids To Learn Reporting!

    Funded Dec 18, 2009

Thank you just wouldn't be enough for the kindnesses that you have shown my students. Time for Kids is an important publication for any early intervention program and you have provided 25 little minds with the two important tools that they were missing.

TFK magazine is full of current events, social awareness issues and activities which give my students the edge. When I hold up the large print magazine and they see that it is just like the smaller version on their desk, they feel like the teacher. I see teaching and learning going on simultaneously and you are the responsible parties.

We are going to continue to work with our sixth grade class so that we will be able to become reporters and create own own TFK magazine. The Nikon camera was received and for the first time it was allowed to go home with one of our students. The latest issue that we were working on was about a snowy day. So my idea was to allow one of our students in the sixth grade to take the camera home and get us a few candid shots of a snowy day for our own publication. I have to tell you, so far so good. The camera came back in one piece, the parents didn't mind signing it out and we saw three great snow day pictures.

I am going to work on using the camera on video mode so that we can make a culminating movie to show at our moving up assembly in June.

Once again, I say thank you for such a generous gift to my class. We are going green and sharing our magazines with the other first grade classes. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing in my vision of educating a very special group of well deserving first graders in the new year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. W.

  • Time For Kids And Weekly Reader In The New School Year!

    Funded Aug 13, 2008

Thank you so very much for your generosity. This donation, at the start of a brand new school year, is going to give my students a head start on learning. I believe that your generosity will be a powerful aid in the rising of our reading scores this year. The whole grade will benefit from these student based magazines and our students will learn to share, be respectful of property and begin a great recycling project. You have generated a renewed spirit in my ability to introduce my students to a magazine that they will love and learn from. Thank you”

  • We Need The Music In Us!

    Funded Apr 1, 2008

My class is so excited! My new English Language Learner tech students will benefit greatly from learning how to use the Apple iPod from some of the older students in the group. We are not allowed to download music directly, but we do have the use of iTunes on the Apple computers within the school. With another iPod, we will have the opportunity for more students to be taught to download sounds and edit them. The students would learn to import music and many different sound effects, for example a bell sound for the turning of pages, and add them to our booktalks. This would allow the students a chance to use the iPod and the Apple computer to create just the right background music and sound effects to produce a really "professionally" finished project.

Thanks again for caring about us!

    Jacqueline W

Thank you again for your generosity”

  • The 29Q116 Big Picture Chess Challenge!

    Funded Aug 29, 2007

Thank you so very much for challenging the minds of our students. Learning to play the game of chess will assist our students in thinking beyond the next move. I am very hopeful that this activity will go beyond an ordinary chess game. It may even spill over to a critical thinking vocabulary lesson. Thanks for an opportunity to give my students a chess chance!

    Educationally yours,

  • Sports Equipment 2 Reduce Recess Conflicts!

    Funded Mar 20, 2007

Your kindness will literally reach some 875 students this year. Thank you so very much for believing in my idea. I am almost positive that having balls and other outside activity equipment for our students will teach sportsmanship, teamwork and most of all how to play fair. These are the ideas that I am trying to get across to our students. Playing fair and learning how to cooperate in a short game is one of the biggest rewards that will last a lifetime. Thank you so very much for caring about my students.

My personal feeling is that you are a truly caring person. The funding of this proposal is going to give our students an opportunity to have constructive outside activities this Spring. I can't thank you enough for making one of ou”

  • Our Movie Is Better Than Yours!

    Funded Nov 7, 2006

My students are going to be amazed when I tell them that we are going to be able to record our next production. Thanks for taking the time to consider our proposal and making our wishes come true. We will begin producing our presentation early next week, so when the camera gets here, we will be able to start shooting our trailer. Thanks again and have a wonderful holiday season.

    Educationally yours,

Jacqueline W and her Tech student”

  • Make Time For Our Kids Today!

    Funded Oct 10, 2006

My entire class would love to thank you for your generosity. This is just what we need in the third grade to help the students to make strides in the language arts and other content areas. As I do every year, I have sent home the notices asking for payment in advance and only two parents responded. Through your generosity, we will be able to reach an entire grade, as we will share all of the Time For Kids editions that we get. My students know that any reading material can be shared and thus the learning goes on. Thank you again for your generosity on behalf of the students in my class”

  • Building Blocks To Improve Our Literacy Skills

    Funded Sep 22, 2006

Thank you so very much for taking a special interest in our school. Just last week the scores for the previous reading test were published and we fell short again. These materials will give us an added boost this year and I hope that our students will be able to comprehend what they are readng and achieve their goals for this year. Thank you again for having faith in us.

  • In The Spirit Of Giving, Help Us Help the Elderly!

    Funded Jun 30, 2006

Although we have just begun our summer vacation, I am still enthusiastic about this very special donation. I always tell my students that you get a really good feeling from helping others. They will certainly be able to understand this fall when we prepare for this year's "Feast of Love". The Feast of Love is when we make a donation to some of the elderly people in our school community so that they will have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Many times the elderly do not go out or, even sadder, they don't have any family members to have special dinners with. We at PS116Q will try very hard to make you proud of us as we prepare ourselves in September to help others to have a great Thanksgiving. We will be making placemats and food baskets to share with them. Your wonderful donation of the Pathmark gift cards will also help them to purchase their meat and trimmings. Thank you again for being a part of our lifelong learning lesson of giving”

Every year I teach the students how to design these beautiful certificates and we have to print them on plain colored paper because we don't have the resources to purchase enough fancy certificates to use. Each month we have 2 students from each class to be recognized as a Student of the Month, one in Academics and the other in Citizenship. This acknowledgment is done in the evening with the parents in attendance. I would like to be able to use these certificates with a decorative border so the students can begin to keep a portfolio of their accomplishments. This will also serve as a form of record keeping. Many of our students are in foster care and others are moved around between shelters. It will also teach the children to record their own personal history while creating a portfolio that they can continue to use throughout their school years. We have 25 students in the Tech Club this year and with your help we will be able to expand to 40 students.
