My students range in age from K-8th Grade. They come from a predominantly urban, low-income, Hispanic background and all live in a neighborhood on Chicago's southside. We have a large ELL/bilingual population that embraces the arts very early on in their education due to the universality of the arts as expression/communication. Students are also extremely active in extracurriculars - participating in a variety of sports, music clubs, craft clubs, student council, etc. We are lucky - in recent years - to have a very active, supportive community of parents and business partners that keep our students engaged and keep our buildings and surrounding property safe. Our teachers are dedicated, optimistic, and welcoming of new challenges and technology - often working tirelessly on grants for additional funding and opportunities for students. While the school building may be dated and somewhat poorly laid out, the facilities are wonderfully maintained, supplied, and utilized by all involved.
