My students are mostly from middle and lower socioeconomic homes and live in a rural community. They attend a public high school which is one of several in this county. While they may not be considered "sophisticated" by big city standards, they do have great hopes and dreams and are supported by a wonderful school community and a city that encourages them to succeed. Many desire to become professionals in the community and work diligently to achieve that dream. But, for a segment of our school population, poverty, home values, at-risk behaviors, and lack of motivation are barriers for their reaching their true potential.
