  • "The Bully" Spruance 8th Grade Class Trip

    Funded Apr 22, 2012

Thank you so much for your generosity in sponsoring our eighth grade students' trip to see the movie BULLY. Your kindness allowed students to experience a situation they would not have had if it wasn't for your unselfish gift.

Our school has a very diverse population of student cultures, religions and family values. All of these differences can be a challenging mix at times. As a "No Place For Hate" school the opportunity to allow children to see the effect of bullying from a safe distance but told through a victims eyes allowed our students to "feels" the victims' pain.

The result of seeing the impact of bullying on the victims and family members and friends left behind, struck a cord with students that as a teacher I had difficulty reaching with some students. This movie touched many students who did not realize the consequences of not only physical but mental and emotional bullying. The students put themselves in the victims' shoes and many realized what they thought was "playing" is not.

After this experience many students asked "How do we change?" and "How can we help others?" The follow up activities offered by the movie's website really hit home the effects of bullying, which would not have made and impact on as many students if we had not seen the movie.

As a result of this movie the attitude towards bullying shifted in a positive and the students were more aware of Thier actions and the actions of other.”

  • Reading is Cool!

    Funded Jun 12, 2008

What a way to start planning for the next school year, by being funded for "Reading is Cool".

Thank you so much for your generosity to my students. The success in my student's reading skills has jumped so quickly as I began using Graphic Novels I was astonished. Now I can not wait to build on what my student's already know; reading is not only essential to success but can be fun and cool.

Thank you again for your contribution to my students' successes in school and life.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Web”

  • Organizing the Ogre

    Funded Apr 22, 2008

Thank you so much for funding "Organizing the Ogre". I will now be able to customize my Reading instruction to each student and their needs. This will allow my students to not only increase their Reading levels but also their Reading confidence.

Your generosity is allowing me to be much more organized than I am now and this will put me at a better instructional place. I will be able to focus on pushing my students academically as opposed to behavioral.

Thank you for giving my students more accountable independence and less of an Ogre for a teacher.

    Thank You,

    Mrs. Web”

  • Reaching Reluctant Readers

    Funded Mar 15, 2008

THANK YOU for your generosity in helping me get students interested in Reading by using books they can not wait to get their hands on.

Everyday my students ask if we are fully funded and I can not wait to tell them we are. The excitement in my classroom is unprecedented. I have never had so many students ask to check our proposal.

Now my challenge will be waiting for the books. What a great challenge.

    THANK YOU,

    LM ”
