My students are fifth graders at a low-income, high poverty elementary school in Washington state. We share math materials and do not currently have any curriculum for teaching math intervention. I purchase some materials from TeacherPayTeacher and weave items that I have found or shamelessly borrowed from colleagues in to Smart Board lessons. Math is often thought of as a subject that all students can be successful with; however, our school is a feeder school for a refugee center and there are students in our class that are learning the English language for the first time, as fifth graders. Since the rigor of our math standards has become more intense with the Common Core, students are required to do quite a bit of writing and reading, during our math block. We are ALWAYS looking for ways to teach math to students with all ability levels and styles of learning so that they can successfully build a mathematical foundation that will guide them in to middle school and beyond.
