  • Computer for Engaging Students

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

Having this amazing computer has made online teaching accessible for all students. I use this for Google Meets every day from 8:00 to 3:00. I have downloaded many different programs using this computer. We use Jamboard, Peardeck, Mote, Nearpod, and so many Google Extensions. My students are engaged and motivated. In the evening, I review and grade all homework for about two additional hours and can immediately provide feedback to everyone. We now can have virtual bulletin boards and so many virtual libraries, filled with every book you can imagine. When we do math, we can use Whiteboardfi, which allows us to see problem solving in real time.

This has made such a difference for me and my first grade students.”

  • It's Time for Fantasy

    Funded May 6, 2019

Harry Potter and Coraline class sets have made reading an exciting, engaging experience. that all my students look forward to.

My students love fantasy and though they were somewhat familiar with the Harry Potter movies, and Coraline movies but had not read any of the books. Distributing brand new copies of these books to read together was an exciting experience.

Class discussions became more interesting. Some students divided into book clubs and read the stories independently. Others, enjoyed the read aloud and thought deeply about the books often making predictions, asking questions, and understanding characters and how they changed.

Most students were eager to continue reading both series.”

  • The Ink Has Run Dry

    Funded Mar 26, 2019

Thanks to generous donors we had received an amazing printer. It prints so many copies so quickly. It is wireless and can be used by all the students when they are on their lap top computers. However, after much use, we were out of ink. My students had gotten so used to printing up research materials, photos, and their own published work that they were so disappointed when we could not use it anymore.

You can imagine how happy they were when the replacement cartridges arrived. A couple of my students unpacked the boxes and immediately replaced them so we could begin to use the printer again.

Once again we have the printer running and ready to be used for so many different purposes. Thank you”

  • Let the Games Begin

    Funded Mar 29, 2019

Board games are in short supply in my school. Many students do not have access to them at home either. So having these in our classroom to use on Fun Friday, or during indoor recess has been so fantastic. Many of my students now know how to place chess and chess tournaments are routine. Jenga and the other strategy games are challenging. My students are learning with games like Apples to Apples, some of the words are being reflected in their writing.

Board games enhance social skills. It is great to see students playing together and teaching others games that they do not know.

My classroom feels so vibrant when students are engaged with these games.”

  • Let's Get Cozy

    Funded Mar 26, 2019

These pillows are beautiful. They look like flowers and have such vibrant colors. They are so different than anything we had before. As soon as they arrived, my students actually screamed with excitement. They could not wait to use them. They brightened up the classroom. The library has become a more inviting place to relax and read. We have arranged a schedule so all students will have a turn to have the color they desire. My whole classroom has become so much more inviting and welcoming. Thank you so much.”

  • The Write Thing

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Once again donors choose came to the rescue. Just as we were getting low on basic supplies, we received our project. We now have a surplus of pencils, both plain and motivational. The pencil sharpener is in constant use. We had sharpened, pencils ready for our state tests. This time of year we have gone through many pencils and pencil sharpeners. It is so heartwarming to see the faces of my students as these important supplies arrive. They are so thankful, that people they have never met care about them and their education. It confirms that goodness and generosity exist in this world.”

  • Time to Focus

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

We have a small class with many students. While we love to work cooperatively and have insightful discussions as partners and in small groups, sometimes we need a little privacy. These boards have made such a difference in students ability to focus during independent reading and independent math tasks. They are able to let go of the distractions and read for longer time periods in a more thoughtful way. Students love the decorations on the boards. They are available at all times and students decide when they will be helpful to their learning. Once again, thank you for providing my students with materials that help them be successful.”

  • Supplies for Success

    Funded Feb 6, 2019

We have been set thanks to the supplies you funded. It is always exciting to see the joy the students exhibit when the projects arrive. They restocked our writing center with the blue writing pens and the red revising pens. For the first time they have their own dry erase board, eraser and marker that they use regularly. We now have a stock of dry erase markers that we routinely use for mathematics problems. In addition, our books are adorned with post-its that help us jot down our thoughts as we are reading. The scissors are being used for many art projects and we can never have enough tape to hang up our work. Thank you for supporting us so many times.”

  • Duplicate Us

    Funded Nov 27, 2018

My students are making daily use of this incredible printer. They have been printing up the stories that they have written, adding photos, and graphs to their work. When they press the print button, they almost immediately have their finished product. They feel so accomplished to have something tangible to hold on to and to share with their classmates and their family. The pride is evident on their face. Research has become easier as they are able to work in groups and choose those articles that best help them understand their topic and then print them. I am able to print up Readers' Theater scripts for them to use. In addition, students are able to read current events articles that I can print up on their own reading level. Thank you so much. This is such an amazing asset in our classroom.”

  • Reading Is Thinking

    Funded Oct 25, 2018

Studying the picture books of Chris Van Allsburg has been an extremely fun and thought-provoking endeavor. His books always have a slight twist at the end which allows for much-animated discussion where critical thinking skills are employed. Students are able to make inferences based on the text and illustrations.

These books are a delight to read. Watching students faces as they are engrossed in the tale is wonderful. Students are eager to share their ideas about his books and have become familiar with his style anticipating the ending.

    Thank you for your generosity.”

My students are a diverse and exuberant group. They are in fourth grade and are beginning to spread their wings. Some live in shelters, others are English Language Learners, many have Individualized Educational Plans. They all receive free breakfast and lunch. They face many challenges in their daily life, but come to school eager to learn. They set clear goals for themselves and try daily to come closer to meeting those goals. Many do not have access to the internet, nor do they possess a library of their own. Most of their social relationships take place in school, as the neighborhood can be unsafe. Our class is a safe place where students can share their ideas, and help their peers. We have a strong sense of community, and we exhibit empathy for each other. I care deeply about all of my students and want for them to become joyful readers and problems solvers. I know they can be.
