  • Let's Sublimate

    Funded Sep 16, 2022

Thank you for enhancing our PreK community. Students have been busy creating different designs to be used on the many brand-new T-shirts you have provided.

We now have enough T-Shirts and ink to supply our school with celebratory shirts which we create for many different holidays. We have been using these regularly.

The ink you provided allows us to continue with this tradition throughout the school year.

Your kindness is appreciated. Students shine when wearing their creations and learn to appreciate the artwork of their classmates.

    We appreciate you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

  • Let's Start the Music

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Once again your generosity provided each of our PreK classes with the opportunity to listen to, sing, dance, and learn by listening to our CDs on our brand-new CD players.

We try to restrict screen time, so it is preferred that they listen to music rather than watch it on YouTube.

Having these CD players allows each student to experience music on a daily basis.

It is used for calming students during naptime, as well as energizing them during playtime.

Our students speak many different languages, and music provides a common language for all.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

  • We Sing Your Praises

    Funded Jan 28, 2023

Once again, donors, through your generosity you have added joy to our PreK community. Each class now has a large selection of CD's to play daily to their students. Having CD's minimizes screen time and allows the children to dance and sing jubilantly.

The wide variety of titles exposes students to many different music genres. Having bilingual songs is perfect for many of our students who are English Language Learners.

We really do sing your praises. You have helped our students tremendously. We appreciate you.”

  • Tech Geeks of Tomorrow

    Funded May 27, 2022

Thank you so much for funding this project. It has enhanced the classroom experience of our students. It has allowed students to participate in online games directly or while connected to the smart board. It is being used for read-alouds and also can help students write stories as students dictate them through Google. Rudimentary coding is also happening. In addition, as a teacher, I am able to make find fun activities on the internet and then print them up. Parent communication through emails and various apps has improved as well. We appreciate you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

  • We Need a Charge

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you so much. We can now use our computers in the classroom for our students. The students will now enjoy playing many educational games, and listening to and/or watching stories online. Becoming computer literate is an important skill and with these chargers, we will be able to help our students feel comfortable with technology. Thank you again. We appreciate you!”

  • The Ink Has Run Dry....Again

    Funded Dec 30, 2021

What a difference your donation has made! My students have been able to research reports and then print them up to share with their peers and their families. In addition, we have been able to print out non-fiction reading materials. Math tasks and science information is quickly available. Pictures of students working in the classroom are now prominently displayed on bulletin boards. There has be increased interest in plays. We can quickly print up multiple copies of Readers' Theater and practice those plays for increased fluency. Having this ink has made a big difference in our class. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

  • Keeping Us Safe

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

Thank you for helping make our classroom safer. We eat breakfast and snack in our room. These dividers give us protection when masks are off. The students are excited to have their own safe space in the classroom. They had a great deal of fun assembling them and worked together for the common good of the class. Now with the Omicron variant, we keep these up a good portion of the day. These safety shields, along with masks, wipes hand sanitizer help students to feel more comfortable while learning. My students appreciate your concern for their wellbeing”

  • Bringing Online Teaching to Life

    Funded Feb 18, 2021

My students were missing the daily picture book read-aloud that is so important for all students. For first-grade students, a read-aloud is necessary to cultivate higher-order thinking skills. Before the document camera, it was difficult to share a book with the class in the remote learning setting.

With the document camera, I was able to read to them and allow them to see the illustrations in the book. We could make predictions, and stop and make connections to the story. The retelling was easier as I could return to the beginning of the book and slowly turn the pages so they could retell the beginning, middle and end of the story.

To practice decoding words, the document camera would allow me to cover up part of a word so the students could use many word attack skills that we have been learning about. This made a profound difference in the way I was able to teach my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

  • The Joy of Reading

    Funded Dec 20, 2020

These texts address social, emotional learning, which during this pandemic is a focus for our students. Many thought provoking discussions followed the read alouds and the shared readings of these books. Children had an opportunity to share their feelings in a safe environment.

These books were culturally diverse and provided an opportunity to embrace and celebrate many different cultures. Children were happy to see children that looked like them, and had similar life experiences.

Most of these books were new to my students. They loved them so much that I made slides out of many of them so they could continue to enjoy them remotely. Thank you so much.”

  • Some Privacy Please

    Funded Nov 8, 2020

Learning online is challenging. There are so many distractions in your home. Students were having difficulty focusing and it was difficult to engage some of them.

When our materials arrived, we immediately sent out a notice to all parents. We had a distribution center set up so families could safely pick up these privacy boards.

When they got them, they immediately set them up with word walls, anchor charts, check lists and rubrics. These tools were now immediately accessible.

They were able to now have their own little nook that provided privacy and allowed for more focused learning.

They were extremely excited and couldn't wait to show how they had set up their boards with classmates.

My students are a diverse and exuberant group. They are in fourth grade and are beginning to spread their wings. Some live in shelters, others are English Language Learners, many have Individualized Educational Plans. They all receive free breakfast and lunch. They face many challenges in their daily life, but come to school eager to learn. They set clear goals for themselves and try daily to come closer to meeting those goals. Many do not have access to the internet, nor do they possess a library of their own. Most of their social relationships take place in school, as the neighborhood can be unsafe. Our class is a safe place where students can share their ideas, and help their peers. We have a strong sense of community, and we exhibit empathy for each other. I care deeply about all of my students and want for them to become joyful readers and problems solvers. I know they can be.
