For many of my students, the opportunity to build relationships with classmates and build friendships did not exist. For this reason, It is important for my students to have access to social-emotional literature. Reading books to my students is one of our favorite parts of first grade; the books I selected will be loved greatly by all of the students in my classroom! These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom environment that I create for my first graders. With these new books, my students will be able to grow and have more confidence in their education and the world around them. My students will be able to access text at their level that will also promote positive social-emotional growth in them. The iPad will support my students by allowing them to interact with iPad applications that will motivate them to become stronger readers. The iPad will also be used to give students the opportunity to show that they comprehend the books they are reading and to engage with stories in a different way. These materials will also help promote the Nevada Academic Content Standards: 1.ME.K.1 Identify different emotions. SS.1.10 Share stories that illustrate honesty, courage, friendship, respect, and responsibility; have students explain how the stories show these qualities. SS.1.14 Discuss the importance of culturally, racially, and ethically diverse people in building a strong and equitable community.
