  • Yes! You Can Read This!

    Funded Jul 18, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity. I had a group of reluctant readers read a book from this series at the end of the year and I have never seen them so eager to read and finish the book before summer break. Your donation will be able to reach so many more hesitant readers. I am so excited to share these books with my students.”

  • Show Me What You Learned

    Funded Nov 1, 2020

Since we have returned to in-person learning your contribution has made a great impact. The individual whiteboards are used daily during both math and ELA intervention groups. The extra large whiteboard in my room is now situated so all students can see the board while remaining socially distanced and the magnetic place value visuals are helping students visualize math concepts that were too difficult in the past.

During remote learning students were not able to practice handwriting and now we are finding that even students in 2nd and 3rd grade are in need of instruction for how to form letters. One side of these white boards has the lines for students to use to practice this exact skill. The opposite side of each board has blank space to write math equations or draw pictures. It is a perfect tool for students to keep in their individual baskets. Now that we have to sit at desks that are spaced apart students are unable to see the whiteboard that is on a side wall. The new whiteboard that you donated is now placed in the front of my room and is working perfectly. As you can see in the pictures the place value magnets are constantly up for reference on this board also.

Throughout this difficult period of time it is so heartwarming to know that we have the support of our community. Your generosity means so much to me and my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Landry

  • Can You Hear Me?

    Funded Sep 30, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity. Your contribution helped to purchase new child size headphones for my students. In September my school tried to ensure that all students had what they needed for headphones. I noticed as the school year continued many kids did not have headphones anymore. They would tell me that the headphones stopped working, were lost or were broken somehow or they did not like to wear them because they hurt them or were the wrong size. I was able to use my donated headphones to help replace these quickly so that students could continue with their learning.

Headphones are necessary for many of my students. We have found that the home environments these students are in are not always conducive to learning. The students often have younger siblings running around, televisions on in the background or adults within the household having conversations. These headphones help to block out the noise from their surroundings and make it easier for the student to focus on their teacher or peers. The headphones also have microphones so the students were easier to hear on the computer.

These headphones are just the right size for my younger students. The students and I are grateful that we have these items to make a difficult situation just a bit easier.”

  • Moving Ahead With a Little Help From Teachers Pay Teachers

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

Thank you so much for supporting educators during this difficult time. Through your generous donation I have been able to use fresh and fun activities to keep my first, second and third grade students engaged. I am a special education teacher and as you know each student is very unique. By using Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) I am able to quickly find and apply engaging material to work on necessary skills in reading, writing and math.

I have purchased over 10 resources already and have plenty left on the card to continue to find new activities through much of 2021. The first four pictures show how I used one of the items that I purchased from TPT. I have a student who needs much support in comprehension. We have been working on Main Idea and Details this last month. I purchased a resource that includes several stories to help keep the focus on Main Idea and Details. We worked together during our remote session on reading and identifying Main Idea and then details. After much practice, I was able to use this same resource to create an independent assessment and put it into our student platform where he can complete work using typing or drawing tools.

The other two pictures show me using other resources with my intervention groups. The materials that I find on TPT are vibrant and interesting for the students and it saves me so much time. Since I do not have to create all of these resources I can put more effort into planning each lesson. Many of the resources that I purchase can be used for multiple skills. The picture showing the green background and 3 pictures in a row is used for initial sounds and then they read the word that is made using each of those sounds. Some students were working on initial sounds and others were working on decoding these simple words. Under each of the blurred out images are great big smiles of my students.”

  • Chromebooks: Come Alive With Assistive Technology!

    Funded Dec 27, 2019

Thank you so much for sponsoring this project for my students. In March our district went full remote and my students have been using these devices as their mode of communication and learning during the last few months of last school year and will continue to use them for the beginning of school year 2020-2021. Unfortunately I do not have pictures of my students using these devices as we received them shortly before school abruptly closed in mid March. The pictures that are attached show a few students demonstrating how to care for the devices and the additional accessories they use.

I feel so grateful to be able to provide a reliable Chromebook to a few of my first and second grade students for their virtual learning. As I write this, we are all gearing up to begin a new year remotely. The students will be using these Chromebooks to login to our school launch site, Clever. This is a platform where students are able to login to one place and all of the sites/meetings they need to access are in one place. They will not have to login to these sites because they are already logged on to Clever. Students will access a site called SeeSaw, which is very much like Google Classroom for those who may have some knowledge of this. This is a perfect site for younger students to receive , complete and hand in assignments.

These new Chromebooks are critical for students to continue to engage in learning while staying safe at home until we are able to return in person. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.”

  • Organization Is the Key to Success!

    Funded Oct 24, 2019

We have been using our new organizational materials every day for several weeks now. The students enjoy being able to independently retrieve and return all of the necessary tools to complete work on the Chromebooks.

When we worked to set up our new system the students were all able to participate in the planning. The students wanted the Chromebooks and additional tools easy to reach but not in the middle of the room. They also wanted to be able to get all of their tools in one spot so that they had more time on the Chromebooks. In the span of one day I have to accommodate the needs of students ages 6 all the way up to 10 years old. As many of you know this age difference is huge when it comes to ability to follow directions and fine motor skills. This system that we have designed together has proven to work for all ages and abilities. All students are able to retrieve and return a Chromebook, headphones and computer mouse without support from an adults. The greatest thing about this process was when they came up with a way to keep the headphones organized using one of the Rolodex Stacking Sorters. This was very creative.

Thank you again for funding this project. Your support makes a difference every day in the life of our students.”

    Mrs. Landry

The Chromebooks will be used in the Special Education setting. This will allow students with special needs to use a variety of tools to access print. They will be able to hear the material presented through text to speech assistive technology features. The Chromebooks will also give students the opportunity to have a voice when writing through the speech to text assistive technology features. This is paramount to the continued success of my brilliant students. Purchasing the educational licenses will allow the students to gain access to the Chromebooks. Thank you for your consideration and generosity in funding this project!
