Books, Books, Books!
Funded May 26, 2015Thank you so much for donating Stormbreaker to our eight graders! Assessments at the beginning of this year showed that over 25% of our 8th grade class were reading below grade level. My goal is not only to raise their reading levels but to get them all hooked on books so they will continue to read through high school and beyond.
Within the first few chapters of this book, they were hooked! Moans and groans could be heard across the room when we finished the chapter and didn't have time to read another one before lunch. Reluctant readers who usually have their heads down, were sitting up and engaged on a daily basis.
As you can see from a few of the notes I posted, they loved this book! They loved it so much that we raised money through a change drive and ordered the sequel! They are now devouring book two!
Thank you so much for your support. Because of your generosity, we have sparked a love of reading in a group of kids who never thought they could ever enjoy a book!”

Technology For Our Classroom
Funded Feb 24, 2014Thank you so much for funding our classroom project! It has made a world of difference in the type of teaching and learning happening in our classroom.
The day we got the call that there was a package waiting for us in the office, the students couldn't wait to open it and set up our projector and speakers. We had been sharing with the other classes in the 5th grade and even when we had access to the equipment, they were unreliable. Having brand new equipment in the room made the students feel so special and important!
Having this technology in the classroom has allowed me to find new ways to make learning exciting and engaging for my students! Many of my students are English Language Learners and even those who are not are reading at least one year below grade level. With a projector and speakers, I was able to find pictures and videos of animals for our adaptations unit and videos to support our unit on energy and movement. Students enjoyed seeing the visuals of birds and classifying their unique traits. They were also able to project images of birds onto the wall and trace them for their own adaptation posters! We have also been able to use a document camera with the projector so that students can share their own work with the class. They bring their own work up in front of the class and explain their thinking step by step while the rest of the class follows along.
Thank you again for your generosity and support!”
