My students come from a low-income (free lunch), high-crime area in which many cannot even afford the basic materials and supplies needed. I would like my classroom to be an escape from that by providing the tools necessary to overcome the difficulties of life and it starts with knowledge. I want my students to become more engaged by connecting to literature and succeeding academically. I am hoping to help by making the literature in my curriculum as relatable to them as possible.
