I have 18 students who come to my classroom eager to learn everyday. At our school we provide students with a rigorous academic learning environment built upon high expectations and inquiry based learning within our meaningful standards based curriculum. As a magnet school, we embrace our MicroSociety theme and pride ourselves in its integration of mathematics, writing, science and social studies into the curriculum, weaving it throughout our academic day. Our students are all employed in ventures that encourage them to be productive and responsible citizens within our learning community. The MicroSociety philosophy creates powerful incentives for all children to learn. Although I teach in a Magnet School many of the school supply funds have been cut out of the budget do to district and state budget cuts which has caused the teachers to reach into their own pockets for classroom supplies.
