Students in the music classroom range from the Pre-K level to fifth grade and also include three leveled Autism classes. I see a total population of 600 students once a week for 45 minute sessions. We have mixed races of African American and Hispanic students and a few Caucasian students. We are a Title I school. Many students express interest in private study and have joined the school choir that I lead on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Students love to sing Kodaly, and we use the Curwen hand signs as they sing solfege. Do-re- mi-fa- so- la- ti-do. Students are given a general music education according to the Common Core standards.
