Literacy and Learning for Little Scientist

Help me give my students books to increase their vocabulary, knowledge of the world and literacy. Interaction with the manipulatives will give them hands on learning encouraging exploration while increasing their experiential knowledge with gravity, growth, and measurement.

Light US Up

The light table is used daily in my classroom. The students enjoy building structures and experimenting with different configurations of the colorful manipulatives with friends. These are stimulating activities for developing math skills such as spatial relations, patterning, awareness of changes in quantity, and organization. It has benefits for knowledge of cause and effect. When placing the manipulatives on the table the students learn that the colors change and they can blend colors as well as how they can balance and combine different manipulatives to build a structure. In addition there are many opportunities for social emotional learning and practice because this is a two person activity and students need to negotiate sharing the materials and space at the table, and weather to work together or separately. The light table is a wonderful place for children to learn and grow together.”

My Preschool students learn by discovery and free play. This light table is fun and unique way for them to experiment with quantities. It is a good place for an individual child to play and relax when they need a break from the hustle and bustle of our busy classroom. The light table appeals to all students in our class. The three year old's can move objects around and enjoy the lights change and develope fine motor skills. The 4 to 5 year olds can sort, and count the objects.
