  • Women's Studies Through Literature and Film Pt. 2

    Funded Oct 10, 2014

I want to thank you all so much for your amazing gifts. My students and I are so very thankful and humbled by your generosity. This Young Women's Book Club is such an amazing opportunity for my students to gain a better understanding of themselves and the world in which they live. My students have the opportunity to become more sound individuals because of the access to amazing literature and messages within the books. I am so happy and proud to share these amazing books with my girls. They are so happy and excited to experience tales of girlhood from the point of view of someone who they can identify with.

Your contributions are very appreciated and you will never know the true impact of what you have given to these girls. We thank you so very much and we hope that you continue to give to other schools and classrooms in need of your help so that those students can experience the same joys that mine have!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McRae

I teach at the Evergreen Middle School for Urban Exploration in New York City. My school is a blossoming environment where the interests of the students and what is best for them is at the forefront of everything that we do everyday. I want to reach the young girls in my school through a class in which they feel empowered, encouraged, and excited about being a young lady. I hope through this class, I can open their minds and their hearts to the struggles that they might face, or have faced already, and give them a place in which they feel safe to explore their fears, feelings, hopes, dreams and desires. Through the literature and film that I want to explore and discuss, I know that my girls will see and feel a connection with the characters that will help to reassure them that their struggles are not theirs alone and we have a community within our school in which we support each other and we are strong within ourselves.
