Book clubs are a wonderful way to engage students and contribute to the reading culture at the school. Giving students the opportunity to share their love of books and reading also enriches the culture in the classroom. Book clubs encourage students to read more, gives students the opportunity to practice public speaking and the value of respectful discussions. Books clubs also allow students to discuss the characters, explore the setting, think about the plot, and examine the themes and genres. The book A Tangle of Knots allows the students to predict the twist and turns that are happening to an orphan girl and everyone’s talents in the community. I Am Malala allows the students to realize how hard life is in other countries and that having a dream is important and to never give up. Both books will add great discussions and teach life lessons. By having whole group book clubs I am hoping to create a fun learning environment that creates a meaningful learning community among the students.
