All students want to learn and by giving them access to cutting edge technology in a classroom setting, they will feel more comfortable to ask for help, try new things, and help each other learn. Isn't that what we want for our future leaders?
Using the Cricut machine, children will be able to create designs focusing on sensory paths, literacy games, and team building creations with a real world purpose. Software available from the Design Space web site will allow all children to work collaboratively to solve problems and enhance learning, which in turn increases student achievements. This software will allow every child to have their own account and allow them to create items individually as well as a team. All Children will be able to participate in the process of creating. Student self concept, creative self expression, and engagement of all students will be increased. We all know creating positive self concepts in children decreases bullying and other behavior issues. As documented by Gardner, there are many intelligences (logical, mathematical, kinetically, etc.) and one child's gift may be a technological intelligence. Having that child work with others of different intelligences, will elevate them in the social status of the classroom increasing respect among peers.
With direct teacher instruction on software and use of the Cricut machine, student knowledge will be exponentially advanced. When students work as a team it promotes inclusion of all levels of learners, which will help in problem solving and collaboration among students. The Cricut machine will be used to make student manipulatives, bulletin board and student created displays, class team t shirt transfers, and sensory paths ("minds in motion" activities) throughout the school.
