I am a third grade teacher in a Title I school with a large at-risk student population. That means that over 50% of our students are Economically Disadvantaged and/or English Language Learners. The students love working on the computer, but our access to the computer lab is extremely limited and we only have a few computers located in our classroom. Having a COW (Computers on Wheels) would improve access but only if headphones become available. Younger students need headphones to properly access computer sites, learning programs, and activities. We could also use the headphones for our Nook readers and audio books. Listening improves fluency, aids comprehension, and builds vocabulary.
