  • Superstar Students Need Your Help!

    Funded Feb 18, 2014

Thank you so much for believing in our students and donating the touch screen computer and modified mouse! The opportunities that you have provided our students is commendable. Our students have been given a tremendous sense of independence and have been progressing rapidly due to your donation. A few examples include:

One student started to use the touch screen computer for learning how to read through a program called: "Lexia Core 5" and has already mastered two levels (12 new skills)!!! Another student loves to use it for the reading Website: Starfall. She is able to independently navigate through the Website choosing and completing her favorite activities. During math via computer software program called, Clicker, students are learning about telling time. Students are able to select their answers on there own without a teacher scribing for them! For example, students were required to tap the correct icon that matched the analog clock when given an array of three choices (5:30, 1:30, and 9:30). In addition, a new pop-up screen appeared with word icons to prompt the student to sequence the icons to make a sentence (e.g. The time is 9:30.) Their fine motor skills operate the mouse with ease and are understanding the concept! Soon enough, students will be able to graduate to a regular mouse.

The gratification that they get knowing that they can achieve their computer program goals on their own have made such a big impact in their confidence and scores! This is an amazing program. Thanks to people like you who pay it forward in order to give students the opportunities that they wouldn't ordinarily have is very much appreciated. It helps us as teachers be more effective with helping our students achieve their full potential when we have the right tools! Again, we could not be more appreciative and hope that this letter lets you know just how grateful we are. Please know that there are students growing and learning due to your selfless contribution. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nazzaro

  • Enhance Independence for My Special Education Students!

    Funded Apr 23, 2013

Thank you so much for your generous donation! Even after having summer break, the students came back this year asking to utilize the sensory stool. All of my students are nonverbal; however, they will gesture to the sensory stool and/or ask to use it by pressing picture icons in their communication device.

There are two students in particular that love to use it when sitting at the computer working on math programs and when at group. The duration for focusing on their work has increased and the frequency of prompting from the teacher has decreased during the period of time in which they are using their sensory stool.

It is evident that your donation has brought my students to a higher level of independence within the area of their school work. Furthermore, it has been a great motivator for the group as a whole. Each student always feels special when they get to have the "fun seat".

Again, thank you so much. This was my first experience with DonorsChoose and it was amazing to make a connection with someone that has a passion for children and their education. We could not thank you enough for your amazing donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nazzaro

Within the Revere Public School District, I teach in a life skills focused special education classroom in which I believe to be one of the best jobs out there. Where many of my students require hands-on assistance in order to access the curriculum, my goal is to ensure they have everything possible that bridges that gap for full independence and thrive in life. In contrary, I teach in an urban and low-income district in which means they live at or below the poverty level. Budget cuts continue and have made it challenging to purchase much needed equipment and funds for student activities. Donating to our classroom will help increase student independence, vast avenues for learning skills, and most importantly: FUN! Thank you in advance!
