Elementary Inquirers Ready for STEM

Funded Jan 30, 2014

This year our school, the Woodrow Wilson Elementary IB Candidate School, has been working very hard to become an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. This program has a very inquiry based and project based learning approach. Aside from us teaching our students to be global learners, the IB PYP program puts a great deal of emphasis on cooperative learning as well as research skills at the elementary level. These skills are very important 21st century skills that we know all our students need in this ever changing world. Our district has also put an emphasis on STEM/STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math as well as the Arts).

With your wonderful donations, you have allowed us to get two important science kits that were needed as the state adopts the new National Science Standards as well. These kits have allowed us to write our new curriculum with some dynamic lessons thanks to the materials there we received through your generous donations. I can not thank you enough for your support for all our new initiatives where these kits have provided an integral part of active learning. Teachers have begun using these materials this year as we create our new science units based on the STEM initiative as well as our IB Units. They will continue to be put to use for many years to come.

Again without your support the smiles the wonder, the excitement that was observed and written about by the students would not have occurred. Thank you for your generous support. You make great things happen in our schools. For that I personally want to thank you.”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Graff
