  • Technology and Classroom Materials for Savvy Students in Need!

    Funded Aug 16, 2024

My students and I want to shout out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated, big or small, to our classroom project.

We have been using iPads for center activites for students and for translator apps. Students have been able to weaken the language barrier and strengthen commuication with one another by having translation readily available.

Along with our technology, we have also received headphones to allow for independent work on computers simultaneously without disrupting one another.

We thank you for the basic supplies such as pencils, highlighters, and erasers that are needed on a daily basis.

Our students are benefitting daily from the wonderful resources we have received.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pasterczyk

  • Technology Needed for In-Person Learning in a Remote Learning World!

    Funded Sep 8, 2021

It has been wonderful having 2 Chromebooks that are always available in my classroom! At the start of every school year, there are a lot of assessments and diagnostics given to students. As you can imagine, a lot of these types of activities have now become online, digital activities due to Covid and virtual learning. That being said, we now have an entire school in need of devices in order to complete these assessments...all at the same time! Now that I have two devices that are constantly in rotation in my room, I can focus on getting these diagnostics done which will then lead me to planning and implementing the most beneficial lesson plans for my students. In addition to assessments, I can include fun and engaging online activities and games for center tasks during the school day as well. Thanks to everyone's generous donations, my students can continue to learn and grow in the digital age without having to wait in line for an available device.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pasterczyk

  • Clever Characters Crave New Books!

    Funded Dec 13, 2015

In second grade, the most important focus of the school year is building and improving the reading skills of students. We do this by reading stories as a class, in small, teacher directed reading groups, and by having students read independently every day - both in school and at home. Students get to choose a variety of books from the classroom library to read independently in school and at home over the course of the week. By the time every student has filled a book baggie with books for the week, our library is pretty depleted. By the time we try to work in groups, we do not have the necessary books to use so that we can work together. With more books and a variety of books to choose from, students are able to experience different types of texts, choose books based on interest, and practice reading level appropriate books. All of the students were so happy to see new books in the library and noticed right away. They love trying new, unfamiliar books to help them practice and read independently to move up reading levels.”

  • Super Second Graders Need Trendy Tech

    Funded Dec 31, 2014

The students are so thrilled with our new document camera! We have used it a lot during math as we learn to regroup when subtracting. When we do not have enough cubes to model regrouping for everyone, the document camera ensures that everyone can participate and understand the lesson. They love seeing the materials as they really look, as opposed to a drawing or a model. We have used it for various activities in which it has been useful to see an exact model. This ensures that there is a visual that shows the way the students' work is supposed to look.

The students ask so many questions about how it works and they are amazed at the "cool" technology. The first time we used it, it took a long time to settle down and not be excited about seeing the teacher's hand on the screen! They are so focused on the document camera when it is in use! I can always hear the chatter and excitement when they see me take it out to be used.

This wonderful gift has helped bring more visuals to the students. They are focused and love to see large representations of actual items. It can be so discouraging as a teacher when there are not enough materials for students to experience for themselves. This document camera has helped to eliminate that issue. Most of all, the students (and myself) are in awe of the generosity of strangers.

Thank you so much for resources and generosity that will be used and remembered for many more years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pasterczyk

My class is a class of 25 students. We are a 2nd grade gifted and talented class. There is still a wide range of levels and learners, however. The children are energetic, lively, and love to talk! Whether it's about a task they were given, or anything else. Some of them are so motivated to be successful and complete challenging tasks. Others have the ability but need more of a push. Our school is in an at-risk, urban area in the New York City School District. Our school is wonderful and successful regardless of this fact. We strive everyday to beat the stereotypes of where we are. The resources are just not available. Gifted and Talented teachers are supposed to have an extra budget for materials needed to enhance the curriculum and it just isn't available. Because these students are on higher levels than their peers, boredom can set in quickly. Without the proper motivation, they can lose focus quickly. They really love a challenge and they love to work hard.
