My third grade students span a broad range of reading ability. Some of them love reading, while some are reluctant readers. Some are auditory and visual learners but the majority of my students learn best by doing, they are kinesthetic learners. There are iPad apps available to enable these learners to interact, hands-on with the characters, setting and plot of the story. Many of my students are reading below grade level, and need to learn to love reading in order to become better readers. Regardless of their abilities, they all have one thing in common; they love being read to, and I read to them every day. Many of the low-cost iPad apps available will enable me to read picture books to my class while leaves blow across the page, characters' facial expressions change, and sound effects enhance the listening experience.
