• Odds and Ends for 1st Grade!

• Let's Learn About the World Around Us!

  My students love having the opportunity to be the Scientist of the Week! They get to bring home the Scientist of the Week kit and choose an experiment that no one has done for the class yet. They practice at home, and then bring all of the materials to class and perform the experiment for the entire class. The other students get to ask question or give compliments to the scientist. Finally, the scientist gets to choose a book from the collection of National Geographic Kids Sticker and Activity books. They are so proud of their accomplishment! Thank you so much for helping me provide the books for the students and allow me to purchase the photo paper to take photos of the students each week to print one and put it in the Science Journal so the others can see which activities were already completed.”

• Wishing My Students a Warm and Cozy Winter!

  My students were so excited to receive their personalized Holiday Gifts from me this year! They loved that they received gloves of their favorite color and they were ecstatic when they noticed they had their name on one glove and a heart with a panther paw (our school mascot) on the other! They immediately wrapped themselves up in the scarf and loved that their name was on this, too! I pointed out the package of hot chocolate and the snowflake sticker, which they both loved, too! Parents emailed me after thanking me for making such a thoughtful and loving gift for their child.

  Our weekly classroom volunteers were so thankful for the hats, gloves, and hot chocolate, too! I was so glad that I could put together such a loving gift to show our appreciation of everyone's time and effort.

• Letters for Learners

  Thank you so much for your help and support providing these necessary materials for our classroom. This year we are embracing the Science of Reading within our Language Arts block. We have transitioned to teaching phonics through Structured Literacy and found that we were lacking the necessary materials to adequately practice the skills we are learning. By being able to purchase the new mini magnetic dry erase boards sets of magnetic letters, I now have the resources I need to address these skills.

  My students love manipulating the letters to spell the words that we are focusing on for our weekly skill. The dry erase boards are the perfect size my my students' little hands. Thank you so much!”

• Learning Fun With Moby & BrainPOP.Jr!

  When we received the news that our district was not renewing our subscription to BrainPOP and BrainPOPJr, I didn't know how I would be able to get across the concepts I was teaching in an easy to understand manner. I was trying to figure out what I could do instead, and then I had an idea to write a proposal for Donors Choose so that I could purchase our own subscription to BrainPOPJr. I am so glad that I did! I was able to access all of the videos and other material that I have used in the past. My students love learning from Moby and Annie and I am so thankful that I can continue to use this amazing resource thanks to Donors Choose.”

• Celebrating With Books

  Thank you so much for you continued help and support for my many projects for my first grade classroom! I absolutely love to give books to my students to encourage a love of reading. My students were so excited to receive their own copy of "The Night Before First Grade" when they met me at Meet the Teacher in August. Their parents were so excited that I had included the QR code of me reading the book to their child.

  On my students' birthday, they receive the copy of "A Little Spot of Celebration." Parents have mentioned how they love reading it together and even talk about setting goals for the upcoming year.

  I look forward to giving the Valentine Books to my students for Valentine's Day and their own copy of the Scribble Stones book when we return in the the new year.

  I am so thankful to have my own set of the A Little SPOT of Emotion 8 Book Box Set (Books 1-8) to read so supplement our Social and Emotional learning lessons.”

• Celebrate Good Times, Come On!

  Thank you so much for your continued help and support to allow me to bring these ideas to life! I love helping my students feel special from the moment they walk into my classroom, to celebrating holidays and their birthdays! I love helping them come up with goals while they are in my classroom, both academic and personal, and helping them achieve our goals. With this project I was able to purchase items to reach my goals! They LOVE anything personalized with their name on it and especially loved the bags and cauldrons I made for the end of the year and Halloween! Thank you again for your help and support!”

• Odds and Ends for Back to School

  Thank you so much for your support with all of the "Odds and Ends" materials. It was so important that we had these supplies to begin the school year with. Many were basic supplies that we needed to be success in first grade. Others were items that helped us get off on the right foot. For example, I love giving each child their own copy of the book "The Night Before First Grade." However, I didn't have enough copies. This project enabled me to purchase eight more so every child received one at Meet the Teacher before school started. By purchasing the labels and various colored dry erase markers, I am able to help the students stay organized, which leads to their success. Thank you so much!”

• Headphones Would Be Helpful

  Funded May 6, 2024

  Thank you so much for your help in providing my class with their own headphones to use and bags to store them in. Having all of them the same size was extremely helpful. If students bring them from home they are of various sizes and quality. Oftentimes students don't bring in any either. So far, everyone has taken good care of them, they are the perfect size for my six and seven year olds, too! I was able to label each pair of headphones and their matching storage bags with the students' class numbers. This way everyone is held accountable for putting away their own materials and knowing where they are. Thank you so much for your help!”
