Much Needed Math Supplies!
Funded Nov 3, 2023Let me express my gratitude to you regarding the purchasing of much needed math materials for the students at my school. Many students have been using the materials without needing to be prompted and have been using them respectfully and correctly.
To start, many intermediate students between third grade to fifth grade have been happily using the hundred charts and gridded whiteboards. They arrived in time as many of them had started math lessons on multiplication. The students learned to use the hundreds chart to track their skip counting and the gridded whiteboards to draw area models for solving multi-digit multiplication.
Additionally, the calculators have been used by several early elementary students between first grade and second grade in stations and centers. The stations and centers have provided the teachers with the much needed opportunity to practice previously taught skills or pre-requisite skills that some students are in need of. The calculators are a part of these centers as it provides the students with the chance to check their work or the work of their peers quickly and easily to keep the activity moving. Some have even expressed that they have began using calculators at home to check their math homework.
Thank you for providing me with these much needed math tools. They have greatly benefitted many students almost immediately and will continue to benefit the students who work with me in small groups, or with teachers who I supported with developing stations and centers. As a learning strategist, I do not always get to work with students as my purpose is to provide support to teachers with their instruction and classes. These tools have given me the chance to do so and I am grateful for your support.”

Funded Oct 23, 2021Thank you for the much needed supplies for our classroom. Upon unpacking the box of supplies, and showcasing them to the students, every mouth dropped with excitement. I expanded on what the materials were for and upcoming projects for them. They were eager to get started, but we had a long way to go before we could be ready for the writing project.
The totes came in handy right away as we need to reorganize many of the storage areas used by students. Computer mice and headphones are now properly stored in a designated storage bins. Dry-erase markers and art markers now have a tote dedicated to its proper storage.
The dry-erase markers at the right time, as the students were in need of using two markers for our whole group instruction. Many of our phonics instruction is done using whiteboards and dry-erase markers. The additional colors helped students segment and blend phonemic sounds into new parts of words. This was sorely missing from distance-education as many students were showing that they had gaps in their phonemic sounds.
The supplies were mostly used to start a research project back in December. The students researched a famous person, wrote and typed a paragraph about their famous person, and created a paper bag puppet of their famous person using the supplies, googly eyes, and markers from the donations. The project was success as the students were delighted to know that they could create an art piece to correspond with their writing. The writing highlights how much the students were set back by distance-education. Although they have made progress with their writing abilities, we have a long way to go. The art work was a nice touch for the students as they made connections between their writing and their puppet.
As we start getting into the end of the year, the goal is to push the students to complete a three paragraph essay independently, so that they are ready for fourth grade and beyond. We will be using the supplies again after SBAC testing for two projects. One project coming up is to research an important person in history and create a different art piece of that person's contribution. An example can be Rosa Parks and making a bus for the Montgomery Bus Boycotts, Julies Cesar and a crown, or Jacky Robinson and a baseball outfit. Additionally, the students will create a learning game using a gameboard for their classmates to play as the year. There are many ways to show that the students are learning besides testing, but it takes a dedicated teacher, and a community to showcase that learning.
Thank you again for the much needed supplies. The students appreciate them and have taken responsibility in caring for the supplies.”

Mr. Escobedo

Funded Oct 20, 2013First of all, I wanted to say thank you very much for the support you have given my class. The students absolutely love the addition of the laptop in our classroom. They love that they are able to sit at a place of their choosing to listen to a story. I have caught several of them sitting on the bean bags in my class enjoying themselves. They also love that they don't have to wait as long to take an AR test. Many of the students have stated that they are grateful for the access to more computers in our classroom.
The students are using the laptop as a resource in the classroom. The most frequently usage for the laptop is to listen to a story. They love the access to various websites we use to read or listen to a story their choosing. The second most common usage is as an extra station for Accelerated Reading testing. In the future, I hope to find more ways to use the laptop for it's other intended purposes, such as researching and learning games.
The students enjoyed using the laptop in groups. There have been numerous occasions when a group of students would huddle together to listen to their favorite story. The access to another computer has made transitions in the class faster as fewer students are accessing the teacher computer and more students sit together to listen to a story. In the coming weeks, there are research projects planned for the students to complete that will require the access to computers.
Once again, I would like to thank you for your support in my classroom. Many people can still contribute to education and the education of others by donating to projects such as this. Your support has helped the students of this year and the future students who access the laptop.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Escobedo
