  • iPad Mini For Communication

    Funded Jun 7, 2016

I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for your donation to my project. My students with autism have been using the IPad to communicate using the TouchChat app. A boy who isn't able to talk, is now requesting his favorite activities such as bubbles. In addition, the IPad has also been used as a reinforcer for completing work. My students with autism will do some work tasks and earn the IPad for 5 minutes until work resumes again. It's been so helpful with gaining compliant behaviors. Lastly, the educational apps for children with autism have also been helpful. I can set up apps targeting specific skills for the students to work on. I can't thank you enough for your donation.”

  • Project Those Images! Pictures Communicate

    Funded Apr 23, 2015

Thank you so very much for your generation donation to my donors choose project. The projector has been such an asset to my classroom. I am able to project images to the wall (actually a roller shade since I don't have a screen yet) to show all the kids with autism and other impairments while working on improving their vocabulary. We are now able to label items by their parts and discuss images of functional objects as a class without having to wait our turn to see the picture individually. Your donation has made this a possibility. Thank you so very much!!!!!”

  • Computer to Run Speech and Language Programs

    Funded Jul 18, 2015

Thank you everyone for your donation. This laptop has been such a lifesaver this year. Another one of our ancient desktops stopped working and I've been able to use this laptop to have the speech students work on various computer based speech and language software programs. It's your generosity that allows me to be able to obtain resources that our so beneficial to the speech and language program in my school. The students love being on the laptop because it's more new age and I have to stop them from arguing over who's going to get to work on it. Thank you again so much!!”

  • Document Camera for our Visual Learners

    Funded Feb 9, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation. It has been such an excellent resource using our document camera in speech sessions. Students no longer have to struggle to see pictures or worksheets that the teacher is referring to when pointing out specific details on the papers. It is kind people like you that make these things happen for us at school so that we are able to obtain resources that we find to be helpful, yet we are unable to get because of lack of funding or budget costs. Thank you again!”

  • Communication Workcenters

    Funded Aug 22, 2014

Thank you so much for your donation for my communication shelves. It has been working wonders with keeping my students organized. I just simply ask them to get their folders, and they go to the shelf, find their teachers name and retrieve their folder. There is no more disorganization of having to search through misplaced folders and files of folders. I am also able to organize papers that I use on a frequent basis. These shelves have been such a wonderful addition and support for myself and my students. I thank you so much!!!!”

  • iCommunicate With An iPad

    Funded Aug 23, 2014

I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating to my project for an IPad mini. My students use it as a way to communicate. They also use it to do language and auditory processing apps, learning how to follow multi-step directions, etc. The students love to use technology and it has been such a wonderful addition to my classroom. As a speech therapist, I need to do so much training for families and students to learn how to use the Ipad to communicate when you are unable to speak. This IPad allows me to do this. Thank you so very much.”

  • Social Skills Training

    Funded Dec 4, 2013

Thank you so much for donating money towards my social skills training project. We have been using the video camera and video taping different social scenes, like grocery shopping, standing in line at school, ordering lunch at school, and asking a friend to play with you at recess. We even used it to film turn taking skills while playing a board game. We have all our regular education kids helping the special education kids by becoming starts in our films to model appropriate language. They all were able to show how to properly ask for a turn. Your donation has helped us so much!”

  • Speech Buddy

    Funded Dec 3, 2013

Thank you so much for making your donation to my project. My students have used the Speech Buddy and are understanding better what they need to do with their tongues to make the sound more appropriately. It's so much easier to explain to them what they need to do and they are trying to replicate that tongue position. Most importantly, the students like having a new tool to use. They don't see the therapy of saying the sounds as being so difficult for them because the tool helps them understand placement. Your donation is so appreciated.”

  • Lets Share Ideas

    Funded Aug 3, 2013

Thank you so much for your support and contributing my Let's Share Ideas Project. I use the white erase board all of the time now to reinforce my lessons. Currently we are working on an organizational chart learning how to define words using a feature, function, class chart. The students love to write their answers in the columns to talk about words. My students also love using their individual white erase boards. They are the perfect size for writing down their answers to questions. I am so happy and thankful for all that you do and in helping our students achieve!”

  • iCommunicate

    Funded Feb 25, 2013

I wanted to write and give you an update on the impact the IPads have given our students here in Newark. Many of our nonverbal children are using the IPads to communicate in a way they have never done before. You have to see how the children are requesting toys and snacks during the therapy sessions. They are also interacting and attending to various learning games on the IPad as well.

Many of our other students have also been benefiting from the use of the IPad. Our learning disabled children and other students receiving speech and language therapy have been working on their objectives by playing various learning games, e.g. word meanings, antonyms, following directions, etc. on the IPad and they really enjoy working on these skills in a fun way.

I truly appreciate your donation. You have helped make a big difference in their education. I can only offer you my sincere appreciation and deep gratitude.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Angela Rodrigues (speech)

My students have autism and/or apraxia. They struggle to speak everyday. Sign language is difficult to do with their fine motor delays and most people can't understand it. These children need a voice and the iPad and certain communication apps can be just what they need, but we need the resources so that we can begin training our kids and to begin training our teachers on these apps. We need to help our kids communicate. Parents need to be trained. Successful training and use of these apps could open up a world of difference for these children who have no means of communicating. Some of our children are over the age of 8 and are still nonverbal and are not beyond their grunting, grabbing. I would like to use these iPads to train other beginning speech therapists on the use of augmentative communication to help our nonverbal children communicate their basic wants and needs.
