As a former student of this school, I feel a sense of responsibility not only to my former school, but to my community. I was born and raised in Bushwick, Brooklyn, so I once walked in their shoes. Many of my students are English language learners who try their best to overcome language and social barriers. I know how difficult it could be for them and that is why I strive to help them achieve beyond their expectations. I try to introduce them to a variety of art mediums. When we don't have the materials when need, we improvise. I teach them how to make art out of recycled everyday items, as you can see from our plastic bottle chandelier in my profile picture. Although my students have become aware that art can be made from anything not just on paper, I still want them to develop the basic art skills they need to succeed. That is why I write my proposals on DonorsChoose.
