Lyrc Reading

Funded Aug 16, 2024

I would like to say how much I truly appreciation your donation to my project. It is providing students with the opportunity to read books on our Louisiana Young Reader's Choice List and prepare for our Battle of the Books competition in the spring. My school is a Title 1 school. Most of my students come from low socio-economic homes and do not have access to home libraries. My book budget does not allow me to purchase a copy of each book for each student who is preparing to participate in the battle. Your donation provides my students the ability to be on a level playing field as other students within my parish. We have almost completed our 3rd novel so far. Through these books, students have learned so many new things about history and working together as a team. In our first book, Swim Team, students learned about the first African American swimmers in the Olympics. They also learned what it takes for a character to overcome their fear and try something new and what it takes for a team to be successful. The next two books, Alias Anna and Attack of the Black Rectangles, both cover the topic of the Holocaust. My students are currently conducting research to learn more about the Holocaust. Students are excited about starting a new book after the Thanksgiving break. They have chosen to read Falling Short next. Again, many thanks for your support.”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Rose
