85% of my students are 2nd language learners, and 100% of them live in poverty conditions. They are smart, energetic learners with big dreams and few life skills. Part of my job is to teach them these skills, but time is always precious, and having the right tools is essential. My kids are inspired by fictional characters as well as real people, so books with compelling stories makes it easier to hold their attention and model appropriate skills. When positive character traits aren't taught and modeled at home, I MUST start them at school as early as possible.
