My students struggle with speech and language disabilities that impact their communication each day with teachers, peers, family, and those in the community. They have to work extra hard at the things many of us take for granted. Autism, specifically, presents its own set of challenges in their understanding and use of language. Many of my autistic students are gestalt language processors, which requires a unique and specific approach to therapy referred to as natural language acquisition (NLA). Research shows that play-based, child-led therapy is most beneficial for our gestalt language processors. Help ME help THEM have rich and meaningful experiences in therapy!
