Mindful meditation is an amazing way to allow students to reflect on their feelings, motivation, reactions, academic and personal focus. Giving students the opportunity to learn ways to become mindful of each day is a beautiful tool for success in life both academically and personally. Mindful awareness has statistically lowered anxiety, increased focus and decreased negative behaviors in students. “Rather than simply training our children’s minds to absorb and regurgitate facts so that they can do well on standardized tests, mindfulness has the potential to promote other valuable cognitive skills, such as creative thinking, perspective-taking, and innovative problem-solving.” ― Patricia A. Jennings, Mindfulness for Teachers: Simple Skills for Peace and Productivity in the Classroom The love of learning comes from deeply motivated and emotionally secure students. Each moment students are present and aware of their physical and emotional reactions to situations which can cause stress, is a moment where more learning can be had. Creating a safe and peaceful space, where students and teachers can come together to breathe, is a space where more productive minds and hearts open. Respect for one another, being grateful for the education being given and received, is a beauty that mindfulness creates. The cushions and soft furniture will bring forth an atmosphere of inner reflection and allow the students to learn the different breathing techniques which will promote a daily mindful practice.
