Sensory Tools for Success!

Funded May 3, 2022

Since the end of August, my kindergarten students have utilized all of the resources that you so generously gave to my classroom. With the class set of headphones, my students are able to complete daily programs without interrupting others. Our students are required to complete at least one lesson a day on the iPad, including Freckle, Reading Eggs, and/or ABC Mouse, as well as their formative assessments that are given on their tablet for progress monitoring. I have twenty one students in my classroom and it gets loud and hectic at times, so the headphones are also used to cancel out the noise.

Within my classroom, I have four students with Autism (three that go out daily and one that stays in my room full time), as well as a student with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and a few with ADHD. Given the resources that were bought for my classroom, I was able to make a calming area in the room. This area has a bean bag chair, a furry rug, two sensory water mats, a plastic bin full of fidgets, and a timer to limit their calming time. The calming area is used for any child that needs a sensory break or needs to calm down from a behavior. Wiggle seats are also used during small groups for when students cannot sit still to complete their work.

Thank you again for helping my students get exactly what they need during the school day. Some of my students have poor home conditions and my room is now a space for them to learn, feel safe, and feel accepted.”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Thompson
