  • Help! We Need A Scoreboard & Basketballs

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students love the new basketballs and scoreboard that was purchased through this project. The new basketballs quickly energized the students soon as they saw them sitting in the gym. A lot of our equipment is old and worn down, so it is refreshing to use brand new basketballs.

Soon as my students saw the scoreboard, they were very excited and all wanted to keep score for the next basketball game. Having students involved in the basketball game, even though they were not playing, is very positive for them. Most of our students get really excited on game days and that goes a long way in the classroom.

Now that we have new basketballs, I am going to plan some new activities for my Physical Education classes. With a limited number of basketballs, I was not able to execute a lot of new lessons that will help the students learn how to play the game. Once again, thanks for your generous donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Manfrates

  • Brand New School in Need of Basketballs!

    Funded Dec 22, 2014

First I want to personally thank you for your generosity. The students could not even believe the basketballs were theirs to use. They were beyond excited and energized to learn the basketball fundamentals.

The students are using the basketballs during Physical Education class to learn the basic skills to play a game. After school, the students who are on the basketball team also use the basketballs.

This project helped boost my teaching because I now have the necessary equipment to teach the students. Thank you again for your donation!”

  • Equipment Needed for Active Athletes

    Funded Jul 8, 2014

I first of all, I would like to thank you for your generosity. My students absolutely love all the new Gym equipment that I was able to purchase. Soon as the students saw the new equipment, they were very excited and energized to play new games.

I now have enough soccer balls for every students in my class to have their own ball. This helps to work on soccer skills with the students. We also have brand new hockey sticks and goals. The students here have never played hockey. Soon as I started hockey games, the students were hooked.

This grant has boosted my teaching in a positive way. It has energized me as an educator to have new equipment. I can play new games and help the students get into better physical shape. Once again, thank you for your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Manfrates

  • Eager Athletes Need Equiptment

    Funded May 10, 2013

First of all, I want to personally thank you for your generous donation to the PS 192 Physical Education Program. The equipment has had a direct impact on the students physical health. The obesity rate is an ever growing problem in this country. It often leads to diabetes and other health related problems as the students grow older.

The students were beyond excited to watch me open the boxes with brand new basketballs, jump ropes, hula hoops and other equipment for class. The new materials also energized myself as an educator. It was certainly a breath of fresh air, to receive new equipment. It helped to open up units that I could not teach without proper equipment and expose the students to new games.

Giving the students new games often encourages them to play these games afterschool or during recess with their friends instead of sitting and watching tv. It is so important that the students are active for at least an hour or more a day. The donation of new equipment directly makes this happen. It lowers the obesity rate and improves their overall health.

Once again, thank you so much for your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Manfrates

The school population is made up of 88% Latino and 8% Black. The students in West Harlem face a tough uphill battle with obesity and diabetes. Children today are not very active and need to be taught the advantages of athletics and staying physically fit. In Harlem, 48% of students are considered obese. This is an alarming number with obesity leading to diabetes and other negative outcomes. Students here love to run and play sports but do not have many opportunities. The school needs new equipment to help promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Many students will take the games they learn in school and continue to play them after school.
