  • Making Remote Teaching Possible

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you so much for your contributions to my project. During this extraordinary time I have been able to better assist my students and keep them learning during this time through your generosity. I am a Special Education teacher and work in small groups. The Elmo Document Camera has been extremely helpful.

I spend a lot of time reteaching concepts to my students, especially math. When I was in the classroom, I would write problems on the board and students would work through them with me. While it is true that I could use software to do the same thing, toggling through tabs and waiting for the technology to 'write' what I need, the document camera allows me to write in real time without waiting for the technology glitches to catch up.

My students have been able to stay focused on the task and we are able to cover more material in the same amount of time. I do appreciate the help you have given to my students and myself.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Palladino

  • Give Kids the Books They Like to Read

    Funded Feb 4, 2020

I want to thank you for helping me create a more inviting environment for my students. I teach in a city school. This is my first year teaching reading in this building and the current classroom library was lacking.

I teach reading to sixth through 8th grade students. Many of my students are learning English as an additional language. The rest of my students are aware of their inability to read. With your donations, I was able to purchase additional, newer books that appealed to my current students. With these new additions my students were more engaged in selecting a book for independent reading.

My students immediately noticed the addition of new books to the library. They were actually fighting over who was going to read which book first. Thank you again for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Palladino

  • Creating an Environment That Makes Them Feel Welcomed

    Funded Feb 4, 2020

I want to thank you for helping me create a more inviting environment for my students. I teach in a city school at the middle school level. My classroom is as drab and colorless as can be. With your help I was able to add much needed color to their space.

I teach reading to sixth through 8th grade students. Many of my students are learning English as an additional language. The rest of my students are aware of their inability to read. With your donations, I was able to include inspirational messages as well as anchor charts for the classroom that give students reminders of those tricky sounds in English.

My students immediately noticed the addition of color to the room and gave them additional inspiration to continue to grow. Thank you again for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Palladino

Many of my students have access to some sort of electronic device at home, either a phone, a tablet or library computers but I want to utilize the amazing reading websites that have leveled books as a reading group. In order to do this in the classroom, I am asking for four iPads. These iPads will allow students to access leveled books on their interest levels easier. Through the use of this technology in small groups I can help my students learn tools to use outside of the classroom as well. The electronic versions of texts offer valuable resources for struggling students. I can show them how to highlight text, use tracking assistance to build fluency and audio assistance on words they are unfamiliar with. In the class, I can utilize various apps that will allow me to strengthen their sight word vocabulary, comprehension skills and overall reading abilities. By using these features in class on iPads, the students can also use these same tools at home with ease.
