Chase Covid Blues Away With at Home Juggling
Funded Mar 5, 2021This past year the juggling balls were used in our club. I delivered the balls to students and we had 8 kids in the club. Most of them were 3rd graders, because I'm the third grade teacher :) We also had a middle schooler participate.
One fun thing that happened, was that the siblings of kids not in the club or at our school would be interested. Several kids in the club told me how their parents or brothers and sisters also started juggling. Now I think about the summer break and I know the balls you helped purchased are still being juggled. Having new balls definitely made kids value them. They also had a lot of pride as they began mastering juggling.”

Rekenreks in Effect! - Elementary Math
Funded Jan 31, 2019My students have been using the rekenreks in math frequently. Learning to add numbers together quickly in your head is a critical skill that we will carry with us into adulthood. For my classroom pictures I tried to use ones where my students are anonymous. One of the screens shows a student getting 20 out of 20 correct on adding sums less than 20. This was a big accomplishment for my student. The kids that struggle with math easily adapt to the rekenrek and see it as non-threatening. It helps them to start and see the different combinations that make ten and to also see that numbers live seven are also a five and a two. The rekenreks are strong training wheels that let my students build confidence and cruise around our math block without me holding the seat :)”
