  • The View from Here

    Funded Sep 30, 2017

Thank you so much for making this opportunity happen for my students. This text will help to make our study of Twelve Angry Men even more relevant by allowing us to take a closer look at the contemporary American justice system and its impact on juvenile offenders. We appreciate your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dittrich

  • Flexible Seating for Maximum Learning

    Funded Aug 2, 2017

I am humbled by your generous support of my students. Thank you so much for helping me to create a flexible learning environment in which all students can learn. I can't wait to see how students react when they walk into our classroom and see the many choices they have for comfortable, functional seating.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dittrich

  • Back to School with Great Books

    Funded Oct 7, 2016

I can't begin to explain how much it means to know that you support my student's literacy development. I know that these titles will both engage and inspire them to read. I look forward to sharing in their excitement when these new materials arrive. Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dittrich

  • Book It!

    Funded Nov 17, 2015

I can't thank you enough for your generous donation of high-interest reading material for the students in my classes. It was such an exciting day when the new books arrived. I walked in the door with the box of books, and audible gasps were heard from my ninth grade students who love to read.

Furthermore, so many of my reluctant readers discover that they actually enjoy reading more than they realized when they have easy access to relevant, engaging texts. Having shelves full of great books makes it easy for me to engage in conversations about books with students and to help them find one that is "just right" for them.

The books that you donated will continue to benefit my students this year and in years to come.

Thanks again for promoting literacy in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dittrich

  • Irresistibly Readable!

    Funded Dec 5, 2015

I can't thank you enough for your generous donation to my classroom library! One of my biggest struggles is finding high-interest reading material for my most struggling readers. The texts that you helped purchase through this project will put those resources at our fingertips.

Thanks to you, my students will have countless opportunities to experience the magic of a good book. In doing so, they will develop literacy skills that will help them in all of their classes.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dittrich

  • Book Bonding

    Funded May 12, 2014

As I unpacked the boxes of books that you donated to my classroom, students asked where they came from. When I explained, they were amazed by your generosity. The knowledge that someone they don't even know cared enough about their education to donate resources for them to use made the books that much more special.

Each quarter, the struggling readers in my introductory language arts class are required to select a book for independent reading. Having a variety of high-interest, grade-level appropriate material for them to choose from IN my classroom has been of enormous benefit. These students are often intimidated by the vastness of our school library. They tend not to have a great deal of interest in reading and when faced with thousands of volumes, they have no idea what to choose. It's been wonderful to be able to talk about books with my students and direct them to shelves where I know that there are resources that will capture their interest and help them experience success in reading.

This year some of my most reluctant readers in the fall have grown into avid readers - many of whom having read far beyond the one choice book a quarter requirement. This is due, in large part, to your generous gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dittrich

  • Blind Date with a Book

    Funded Nov 2, 2013

Thank you so much, again, for the books you generously provided for the students in my classroom. Reading is an integral part of our daily activities in Language Arts, and it is incredibly helpful to have a classroom library filled with engaging material for readers of all interests at our fingertips. The frequency with which friends of my students drop by and ask to check out materials demonstrates to me that these books have resonated with ninth and tenth graders.

My students were both surprised and immensely grateful when they learned that complete strangers cared enough about their education to donate to our class project. Your donation has helped me to create a culture of reading in my classroom. Students frequently ask for recommendations, and it's awesome to be able to walk across the room and pull a book off from the shelf for them to read. It always makes me smile when I hear them talking about their latest favorite read and recommending it to a classmate.

I know that these resources are helping my students foster a love for reading that will benefit them throughout their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dittrich

My students attend a suburban high school of about 2400 students, and not unlike many teens, they are often reluctant readers. Their struggles with reading make them even more inclined to profess, "I don't like reading." When confronted with an entire library full of books they are quickly overwhelmed and frequently struggle with finding materials of individual interest to them. As a result, students will often choose books according to size and cover art which doesn't always lead to having chosen a title of interest to them.
