We learn in a building that was erected in the late 1960s. The building PA is clearly not designed with today's technology. digital camera and lighting rigs will allow us to start up a student produced, student run newscast. We'll record weekly news blasts, upload to the school's YouTube page to be shared with our community. I'll be assembling a 'studio' from scratch in a storage closet, so the lights will give our videos a more 'professional' look. The camera shoots in 4K, giving our final videos a modern and crisp appearance. The team(s) of 5th grade students will write, direct, interview, film, produce, etc... a weekly newscast to highlight the things we are doing in our school. The plan is to also feature teachers/staff and provide background on their jobs and duties to help build our school community. We'd also love to include information about our students' success and school goals. We live in a word that is information driven. Students need to learn at an early age the importance of reliable news sources. They will gain speaking and listening practice, writing skills, interview/interpersonal skills, technological and digital media skills. The list is endless.
