In order to increase children’s health, we need to change the way they think about food and their part in having a happy and healthy heart. My students are always asking if they can bring family recipes to school to share who they are and what they care about For the "Have a Healthy Heart Recipe Project" students need microphones! They will bring recipes from home and record into new digital recording microphones interviews of each other talking about their favorite family recipe and the family connections that it invokes. After editing, the recipes and narratives will be digitally shared with our “Health and Cooking” elective classes via Google Classroom. After listening and viewing the student projects, cooking class students will then choose recipes to cook and share. During the communal luncheon students will give feedback on the heart healthy choices in the recipes. They will get to educate each other on the nutritional content of the food. Equally important, they will have an opportunity to talk about family traditions in a supportive, school setting.
