A Computer For A Gifted First Grade Classroom
Funded May 15, 2017Thank you for providing our classroom with an extra computer. I station it near my desk and use it for my more struggling students. The children have taken to the touch-screen computer much better than the older, traditional computers in the classroom.
Online lessons are not an optional extra or a luxury. They are an integral part of the curriculum. All students are expected to study online. Your gift helps keep the children up-to-date with Language Arts, Math and much more. It has really helped my first graders!”

Funded Jan 24, 2017Thank you for being so generous to my students. These TOON books are just right for curious first graders. They have great stories, they are beautifully illustrated and they are just the right length. It is very kind of you to support us. Donors Choose is such a blessing. Just today, thanks to #bestschoolday, we received several donations towards our latest project. Thank you so much for being there for my students. When your classroom receives strong support from the community, it is truly inspiring.”

Funded Oct 5, 2016Thank you all very much for these beautiful prizes! We have passed them out at two awards ceremonies and they are a big hit among the kids. As expected, the children exhibit them like badges of honor, and they are keen to collect a set, featuring all the different colors available. Little touches like this make such a difference when you are trying to motivate young children to read. At our next award ceremony, we'll be sure to take some photographs of our happy winners that we can share with you.”

First and Second Grade Online Learning
Funded Oct 21, 2015Thank you so much for helping us extend this web service to our children for one more year. We are currently planning our next Celebration: 'Home for the Holidays'. The children who meet their reading targets for the month of November will be invited to a celebration at the beginning of December. They will find a bare holiday tree in the library. Our Art teacher will show them different ways to decorate the tree. Who knows? The children might discover a present or two at the foot of the tree. (I am going to ask a local supermarket to donate a gingerbread house. Shh....That's still top secret.) The chance to come to celebrations like this really motivates our children to read. They are going to love decorating the tree. THANK YOU for helping our smallest readers!”

First Grade Frowns Turn To Smiles With The Pout-Pout Fish.
Funded Aug 23, 2015Thank you for being so generous! The Pout-Pout Fish books are even better-illustrated than I expected, and quite tough. The stuffed toys make a good prop for story-telling, too. The stories have a moral, but they are not boring. They move at a fast pace. Their vocabulary is fairly advanced. You can repeat them several times, and students will pick up new words and ideas at each reading. Most importantly, they are fun! THANK YOU all for supporting the first grade. We appreciate your help very much.”

Printer Needed For 1st Grade Classroom
Funded Jan 5, 2015Your gift is so useful! Thanks to you, the children can express themselves by writing short stories, which they illustrate and take home to share with their families. They also find pictures online, print them and write their own stories underneath. I also like that the children can print samples of their writing that we store as the year goes by, so that the children and their parents can see the progress that they are making. The printer helps us in countless ways. Thank you so much for your generosity!”

1st + 2nd Graders: More Stories, More Math, More Science
Funded Oct 14, 2014Thank you for your kindness! Now the younger children at the school will be able to participate in the Renaissance reading program, just like the elder students. That's great! The program really makes a difference. It really motivates the children. So far this year, children at our school have read 3,153 books / over 16,000,000 words. (As you can see, one of the benefits of the program is that it lets us teachers follow the students' reading habits very closely.) Thank you for sticking up for the little folks!”

Meet Dr. Seuss!
Funded Jan 2, 2013Thank you so much for your books! My first grade students have been reading them a lot. They have turned into experts in everything Seussian. Last Friday was Doctor Seuss's birthday. Some community volunteers from a local restaurant came in to school to read to our children. I think they were pretty impressed by my students. They knew by heart some of the Doctor Seuss books that the volunteers read to them. Thank you very much indeed for helping out my children. We really do appreciate your support.”

Hungry Caterpillars And Moody Bugs
Funded Dec 27, 2012Thank you so much for the Eric Carle books. The books started an insect craze among the kids. On their weekly visits to the school library, the children have requested bug-themed stories and videos. The librarian has been ransacking his shelves for stories about things that creep and crawl. I hope you have received the 'Thank You' cards by now. The children took a lot of time to make them. They wanted to give you something really special to show you how much they appreciated your gift. THANK YOU for thinking of us!”

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie...
Funded Dec 19, 2012Thanks a million! The children absolutely love your books! I read one every day, at story-time. The class love the playfulness of the stories, the illustrations, and, most of all, they love to guess just how each story is going to get back to the very same point from which it started! Once I read a book, it goes on a bookshelf where the children can access it themselves. The students like to read these books again and again. Thank you so much for the kindness that you showed to my first graders!”
