My students are freshman, and they are a raging ball of energetic hormones. They attend an inner city, neighborhood high school where resources are often limited. Most of my students receive free or reduced lunch. My students are competitive and excited about learning. They are learning who they are and figuring out friendships and relationships (as freshmen often do). My students are appreciative of help, and they love when they can work with adults (there are sometimes three of us in the classroom). They are sponges for learning, they are eager to soak it up; yet they sometimes get overwhelmed and "full" once they see me at the end of the day. Nevertheless, they are great kids, who despite overwhelming circumstances for some, are appreciative of their teachers and recognize the importance of education.
