The classroom of the future is now. Large format interactive touch technology enables students in any classroom, any where in the world to have full access to all of the world through the window of technology. In my classroom we use Smartboards to interact with the world of information and collaboration through google, government websites, museums around the world and geolocation software including google earth. Unfortunately the computer we use to run all this is too old for the job! It is an 8 year old computer that struggles to run the most basic programs; when we try to integrate data from multiple sources, for example, when we do a daily weather report that connects data from weather.com, geolocates the place on google earth, and sees realtime satellite data and then try to combine these sources on a student created interactive page, the computer shuts down, crashes or freezes. With a new computer that is designed to run multiple programs once, we can be free to explore multiple sources of information, gather data from across the web, and ultimately combine it and make sense of it in the students own words and collaboratively-created graphs, interpretations and pages.
