  • Creating Costumes from Scratch

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

Thank you so much for you donations. The dress forms (mannequins) allowed our students to tap into a new area of theatre production. Students learned how to sew by hand and were able to apply it on the creation of many of our costumes for our spring play "Titus Andronicus".

When the dress forms arrived, students were so excited and surprised! You could see the spark in their eyes. Once we started hand sewing, students were excited to apply their skills on our costumes and they were extremely excited to use the dress forms.

Due to COVID-19 our time with our production and sewing was cut short. In the future, students will continue to use dress forms to create costumes for productions, contests, conference presentations, and college interviews. Students will move on to learning how to use sewing machines and this will allow them to grow on their costume constructions skills.

Thank you all again for this opportunity. We are excited for our future and our upcoming creations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Morales

  • Stitching and Sewing: Bringing Theatre to Life

    Funded Oct 2, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation. The sewing machines sparked interest, creativity, and passion into my students. The machines helped us create something ,any students never thought could create.

As part of a well-rounded technical theatre program, students need to learn the theories behind theatre production and then actually apply it. Through your donation, students were able to apply costume design and theory to one of our fall show, MEDEA. When students see the theory in action, everything makes sense.

Thank you for allowing our students to explore and create the world of costumes!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Morales

  • Constructing Little Shop of Horrors

    Funded Sep 25, 2015

Your donations and generosity have really helped us improve in the kind of education our students receive. Having the equipment to create our sets has given our students self-esteem and courage to create. Power tools can be intimidating especially to students who have never been surrounded by the idea of creating. You've given us the tools to create and use our imagination and for that, I say thank you.

Having the power tools allows multiple students to be exposed to woodworking and creating. In the past, we could only help 1-2 students at a time. With your donation, we are able to serve more students and create work faster.

When we started working with power tools, many students had never used or handled a power tool. The biggest majority of students who were afraid of the power tools were girls. It seems that they don't normally have the opportunity to build. My goal is to empower my students, especially girls, into using power tools. It was great to see students building, seeing my female students use power tools was great! We created our set with materials available and even though we still face budget issues, we now know that our imagination is the limit”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Morales

  • Technical Theatre: Create

    Funded Sep 17, 2014

Thank you all for the generous donation to our theatre department. Students worked really hard this past school year on creating powerful pieces of theatre that communicated important stories to our audience. Students were excited when the new power tool and sewing machines arrived. Seeing the donations and knowing that these items now belonged to the department brought confidence into my design students because now we have the preliminary tools to create costumes and set pieces that will bring our theatrical world to life.

Students have been using the materials all school year to create set pieces, flats, even character costume pieces, sewing techniques, dresses and costumes, etc. Before, we would be limited by the lack of materials around us. Now, we have a few more tools at our disposal that will allow us to bring to life student imagination and ideas.

Since we received the donation, students love to build and create in class and on their free time. Students are not afraid of the power tools and are excited to create new items, tapping into their imagination and not being limited by the lack of tools.

Thank you so much for your generous donation and your belief in our program. Every year, we seem to grow in the number of students eager to participate in theatre, either as performers or designers. You are making a difference by believing in my students. Again, Thank You.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Morales

  • Technical Theatre: From the Ground Up

    Funded May 17, 2013

I wanted to thank you all for the support during this project. The materials we attained through the donation changed the way I teach the class and helped the students grasp the concepts and training behind set building and safety.

When we received the tools, the students were ecstatic and truly surprised. We went through all of the safety behind the power tools and started using the tools in small ways. Many of our students had never used a power tool before so we had to start small. We eventually got into building our set and although it was a challenge for all of us, they all loved it!

Students are now comfortable with the power tools and have a confidence about them that just rocks! Being able to use the saws and drill has changed the way the students see technical theatre. They are now able to explore storytelling through different levels of design and construction and are using their imagination to create amazing things.

My students and I are so grateful for this gift. Thank you again for this trust and for your support of the arts.

    Many thanks!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Morales

I have a growing theatre program and a component of theatre arts is Technical Theatre. Technical Theatre incorporates math skills like volume, measurements, angles, height, and many other cross-curricular subjects. Some of the items we need are a jig saw, table saw, and a power drill to help us start our scene shop and be able to create sets for our shows. My students are interested in building and designing. This is a great opportunity!
