I teach at a school where my students come from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I teach at a performing arts magnet school where students are able to learn through play and music while at the same time allowed to perform what they have learned. It is imperative that I give them explicit instruction when I teach them certain reading, writing, and math skills. As you know second graders can be a little distracted but having a large rug for whole group instruction will help my students stay focused and comfortable during my lessons.
