Literature + Science + Art = An Awesome Unit On Courage and Tolerance
Funded May 10, 2017I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the materials for my awesome unit on courage and tolerance. My students were able to learn about many famous Americans including minorities and women. My students loved looking at the 28 books including several books about Jackie Robinson, George Washington Carver, Clara Barton, Martin Luther King Jr., Helen Keller, and Frida Kahlo.
I also read them "For the Right to Learn: Malala Yousafzai's Story" which was probably their favorite book. I have a girl who is an Afghan refugee in my class and, although she doesn't speak much English yet, she was very excited to hear this story and the rest of my class was very touched by the story too. They loved learning about all of these courageous people and discovering that many of these people look like them.
My students enjoyed learning about George Washington Carver and, as a follow-up activity, they were excited to use the Watch Peanuts Sprout & Grow Teachers Kit to be able to grow their own peanut plants. My class and our third grade buddy class also loved learning about Frida Kahlo and then using the new oil pastel sets to make their own portraits of her. As a follow-up activity, my students loved using the Roylco Stand-Up Self Portrait Art Project Kit to create their own special self portraits.
Your donation has helped teach my students about many of our important and courageous historic figures in American and world history. It has also given them great memories of their time in second grade when they had so much fun learning about famous courageous people and using oil pastels and other materials to create amazing works of art. I am also happy because many more students in my future classes will also be able to use these materials and benefit from your generosity.”

Funded Dec 31, 2016I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the Amazing Animals Classroom Presentations for my second grade students and for their third grade buddy class. This was an absolutely wonderful experience for my class and for their 3rd grade buddies. I wish you could have been there to see all the smiles, excitement, and happiness that your donation provided for all of these children.
My students thoroughly enjoyed getting this incredible opportunity to see, observe, and touch some of the different animals that the traveling scientists brought to my school. These included a chinchilla, a rabbit, an iguana, a frog, a toad, a hissing cockroach from Madagascar, a milk snake, two ring necked doves, and mealworms.
As a follow-up art project my students used the Mask Making Folding Pack and the white elastic cord to make their own animal masks based on one of the animals they saw at the Amazing Animals Classroom Presentation. They really loved doing this activity and the finished masks were amazing!
I am very thankful for your generosity. Your donation has helped my students to become more excited about what they are learning in school. This has also given my students great memories of their time in second grade. Hopefully many of my students will go on to pursue careers in science including biologists and zoologists as a result of this wonderful project.”

Funded May 12, 2017I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the colorful Spectrum Raised Accent Color Pen Sets, the set of Laguna Ceramic Bisque Tiles, the brushes, and the transparent glaze that my students used to make a present for the special dad in their lives.
My second grade students were able to use their favorite colors to create a personalized hand print as a Father's Day present to give to their fathers, uncles, or grandfathers. Each child chose their father's favorite color for their handprint. They wrote a message to their dad or drew a special design to personalize their tile. Then we covered the tile with transparent glaze and we fired the tiles in the kiln. My class and the hard of hearing class that joined us were delighted to see how amazing their tiles looked after we took them out of the kiln.
Your donation has given my students great memories of their time in second grade when they had so much fun using ceramic tile and glazes to create a special present to symbolize their love for their fathers. Many of my boys and girls were so excited that they proudly handed the handprint tiles to their fathers right after school. I wish you could have seen the smiles on their faces! I can imagine that each of their fathers will be thrilled to receive the present and I'm sure they will treasure it for many years to come.”

Funded Jan 12, 2017I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of science materials for my second grade classroom. We have been using the rock and mineral samples and the Rock & Mineral Collection Activity Kits as we study about rocks and minerals in our science books. It has really helped bring this unit to life because now my students have been able to hold the rock and mineral samples in their hands and examine them closely with their magnifying glasses. My students also had a great time experimenting with the magnetic lodestone to see how magnets and iron fillings attract to it.
My class enjoyed looking at the Learning Resources Cross-section Earth Model as they learned about the layers of the Earth. They also had a great time working with their buddy class to hide and find the Assorted Dinosaur Fossil Skeleton 6-7" Figures.
My second grade students also loved using the new ceramic glazes. They were able to use the glazes to paint their clay dinosaurs in an array of colorful colors. My students were delighted with all the color choices. They were able to use their imagination and creativity to paint their dinosaurs.
When I brought the glazed dinosaur sculptures back to my classroom after taking them out of the kiln, my students were very happy and excited to see their finished dinosaur creations. They were all looking forward to putting their dinosaur sculptures into their dioramas and proudly showing them to their families and friends at Open House this week.
Your donation has given my class wonderful science materials. It has also given them great memories of their time in second grade when they had so much fun using clay and ceramic glazes to create amazing works of art. I am also happy because we have so much of the glazes left that many more students in my future classes will also benefit from your generosity.
This project has helped to inspire my student's imagination and positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in science.”

Funded Dec 8, 2016I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the two 3-D Collage Boxes, the 3-D Geometric Shapes Tub, the Heavyweight Tagboard, the Glue Dots, and the wiggly eyes for my second grade classroom.
We finished studying about geometric shapes in math and this project allowed my students and their third grade buddies to go beyond just reading about geometric shapes in their math textbook. They used the 3-D Geometric Shapes Tub when they were learning about solid shapes. This was wonderful because each of my students was able to hold each of the solid shapes as they learned about edges, faces, and vertices instead of trying to figure it out by looking at a picture in their math book.
They used the 3-D Collage Boxes and their imagination to create their own amazing 3 dimensional geometric creations. My students used the tagboard to create display boxes that they decorated using the plane shapes we have been learning about. This project has really helped bring more excitement and enjoyment to my classroom.
Your donation has given my class wonderful materials. This has helped to inspire my student's imagination and creativity. It has also given them great memories and I'm sure it will positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in math, science, art, and engineering.”

Funded Dec 15, 2016I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the set of 29 National Geographic Readers animal books and other assorted animal books, the Animal Opposites Pop-Up book, and the 3 animal drawing books for my second grade classroom. Our school does not have the funds to purchase these supplies, so without your help, my students would not be able to experience and enjoy these wonderful animal books and animal drawing books.
My students enjoyed looking at the amazing pictures and reading about the different animals in the books that you donated. They also loved looking at the drawing books and learning how to draw their favorite animals. The pictures gave them great ideas as they worked hard to draw their favorite animals. They used these wonderful books to write and illustrate their animal reports. They also created a Google Slideshow about their favorite animal which they then proudly presented to the class.
I am very thankful for your generosity. Your donation has helped my students to become excited about what they are learning in school. It has also given them great memories of their time in second grade. Another wonderful benefit of your donation is that my future students will also be able to use and enjoy these wonderful materials.”

Funded Nov 29, 2016I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the science materials for the life cycles project in my second grade classroom.
My students enjoyed observing the ladybugs as they went through their life cycle in the Ladybug Land. It allowed them to feel like they were real scientists. They liked looking at the peacock and guinea fowl feathers and reading the 5 books about birds and their life cycles. My class enjoyed using the 4 drawing and coloring books to learn how to draw their favorite birds. They also were very excited to look at the Tilt and View Animal X-Rays.
My students especially enjoyed doing the two follow-up art projects. After we finished watching the ladybugs go through their life cycle, they got to create their own ladybug art that is hanging up in my classroom. After we finished learning about the bird life cycle, my students got to choose their favorite bird from the drawing/coloring books and then cut it out on tagboard. They loved adding feathers and feet to make their own special stand-up bird to display.
I am very thankful for your generosity. Your donation has helped my students to become excited about what they are learning in school. This has helped to inspire my student's imagination and positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in science. Another wonderful benefit of your donation is that my future students will also be able to use and enjoy most of these wonderful materials for many years to come.”

Funded Nov 25, 2016I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the 7 books about cars and the art materials for my second grade classroom. My students enjoyed learning about cars and they loved doing the follow-up art project.
My students went on a field trip to the Peterson Automotive Museum. After the field trip I introduced them to the car art of James Rizzi. My class used the car drawing and coloring books to get ideas and then they drew, decorated, and cut out their own imaginative cars on the cardstock. We attached the plastic lids as the wheels and then they were ready to put their cars on our bulletin board. We used the Carson Dellosa Road Borders to create the roads and my students enjoyed deciding where they wanted to put their cars. They also loved using the Crayola Design Pro Car Collection kit to take their car design and turn it into a 3D model on the computer.
I am very thankful for your generosity. Your donation has helped increase my student's appreciation of car design and art. Your donation has given my class great memories of their time in second grade when they got to learn about and then design and create their own imaginative cars.”
