  • A DEAFinitely Great Project About Courage & Disabilities

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the 13 books and the Sign Language Welcome Sign for my awesome unit on courage, disabilities, and tolerance. My students were able to learn about famous deaf Americans including Laura Bridgeman, Helen Keller, and William Hoy. They loved learning about people who are deaf or hard of hearing and seeing them as the main characters in these books.

We have many deaf and hard of hearing students at our school so these books were especially interesting for my students. All of the 13 books and the welcome sign have now been donated to our school library so all of our students including those who are deaf or hard of hearing will be able to feel welcome in our library and look at these new books. I know many of these students will be very excited to check out books with characters who are deaf or wearing hearing aids just like themselves.

Your donation has helped teach my students about some of our important and courageous historic deaf people in American history. I am also happy because many more students at my school will be able to check out and read these books in our school library and benefit from your generosity.”

Every week my students checked out every available Dav Pilkey book from our school library so they could take the books home to practice reading them to their families.

My students also really enjoyed hearing the other books written by Dav Pilkey. Their favorites were The Dumb Bunnies, Dogzilla, and Kat Kong. They could not stop laughing as they listened to the funny text and looked at the hilarious illustrations in these books.

  • Dinosaurs + Puppetry + Creativity= An Amazing Second Grade Project!

    Funded Dec 27, 2017

I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the puppetry workshop for my second graders and their third grade buddies. Our school does not have the funds to purchase these activities, so without your help, my students would not be able to experience and enjoy this amazing puppetry workshop.

My students loved working with Ellen! They were so excited to learn how to put together and decorate their very own dinosaur sock puppets. Each of my students was able to put their own personality into their puppets and they are very proud of what they have created.

I am very thankful for your generosity. Your donation has helped inspire my student's imagination. It has also given them great memories of their time in second grade when they got to have a puppetry workshop with an amazing puppeteer and create their own awesome dinosaur sock puppets.”

  • Picasso plus Second Grade Artists equals An Amazing Mother's Day Project

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the five Picasso books, the art activity pack, the clear plastic easels, and the art supplies for our amazing Mother's Day project. My second grade students and their third grade buddies enjoyed learning about the life and art of Pablo Picasso. They were able to use the pictures in the books as inspiration to draw their own Picasso style portraits. Some of my students chose to draw a self-portrait of themselves and other students chose to draw a portrait of their mothers.

After drawing their pictures, my class colored them in using oil pastels and markers. Then they cut them out and used the Mod Podge to attach them to the tagboard. My students were able to use the sponge paint brushes and the Mod Podge to create their own beautiful paintings in the style of Pablo Picasso. They were delighted to use these new art materials and they were so excited and proud when we put their finished masterpieces on the easels. My students could hardly wait to wrap them up and them give to their mothers for an amazing Mother's Day present.

Your donation has helped inspire my student's imagination. It has also given them great memories of their time in second grade when they had so much fun learning about Pablo Picasso and using the art materials to create their own amazing work of art to give to their mothers. I'm sure these special Mother's Day portraits will be loved, treasured and displayed for many years to come.”

  • This Second Grade Project Is Out Of This World!

    Funded Jan 9, 2018

I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the meteorites along with the meteorite and Mars books for my second grade classroom. Your donation has really helped get my students excited about their science and Language Arts unit on fossils and prehistoric life.

I introduced the books about meteorites to my students as part of an introduction to what might have killed the dinosaurs. After we read the books, I handed each student a meteorite to examine. The meteorites are helping to bring this unit to life because now my students have been able to hold the meteorites in their hands and examine them closely with their magnifying glasses. They were thrilled when I told them that they each got to keep their own small meteorite.

Your donation has given my class wonderful science materials. This has helped to inspire my student's imagination and positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in science.”

  • Help Second Grade Scientists Dig Into Paleontology

    Funded Nov 14, 2017

I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of science materials for my second grade classroom. We have been using the three fossil sorting kits as we study about fossils in our Language Arts and science books. It has really helped bring this unit to life because now my students have been able to hold some real fossils in their hands and examine them closely with their magnifying glasses. My students also had a great time looking at the real ancient shark teeth and picking out their favorite ones to keep as a souvenir.

My second grade students also loved using the Crackle Designer Stamp and the new ceramic glazes. They used the designer stamp to press onto their wet clay dinosaurs to give it a cool textured dinosaur skin effect. They were able to use the glazes to paint their clay dinosaurs in an array of colorful colors. My students were delighted with all the color choices. They were able to use their imagination and creativity to paint their dinosaurs.

When I brought the glazed dinosaur sculptures back to my classroom after taking them out of the kiln, my students were very happy and excited to see their finished dinosaur creations. They are all looking forward to putting their dinosaur sculptures into their dioramas and proudly showing them to their families and friends at Open House next month.

Your donation has given my class wonderful science materials. It has also given them great memories of their time in second grade when they had so much fun using clay and ceramic glazes to create amazing works of art. I am also happy because we have so much of the glazes left that many more students in my future classes will also benefit from your generosity.

This project has helped to inspire my student's imagination and positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in science.”

  • Help Second Graders Visualize Data With Graphing Supplies

    Funded Jan 26, 2018

I would like to thank you very much for your generous donation of the math graphing supplies for my second grade classroom. We have been using the double sided graphing mats, the double sided graphing pocket chart, the graph paper, the book about graphing, and the stickers and mini accents.

My students have been learning about how to make and interpret picture graphs and bar graphs in their math books. We used the graphing supplies to extend their learning and make all kinds of different graphs. These supplies have really helped my students get excited about what they are learning in math because now they each have been able to get hands-on experiences using these graphing tools to create and interpret their own graphs.

Your donation has given my class wonderful math materials. This has helped to improve my student's confidence and positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in math.”

My students are wonderful second graders. Our school is located in a high poverty immigrant community in California. The parents of most of my students have never finished high school and my students will hopefully be the first ones in their families to go to college. My classroom consists primarily of students who are learning English as a second language. I also mainstream deaf and hard of hearing students and learning disabled students in my all inclusive classroom.
